How do I become an area manager?

My area is growing and the roads are falling behind. How can I become an area manager to help update the map. I want to help.

The instructions are in the wiki, please be sure you are confident with editing first! Lots of hints and tips in the links in my signature. The videos are well worth taking the time!

Further, most of the editing veterans on here will be more than happy to take a look at any work to ensure you've grasped the basics if you're happy with that!
