Waze Map Editor (WME) manual in the Wiki

Post by AlanOfTheBerg
Editors,

I'm happy to present the beginning framework of the new map editor (WME) manual in the wiki. I have written several new pages, building on the layout of some of the existing Cartouche pages, but rewriting from scratch and including all new screenshots.

The head/top page is https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/Global/Waze_Map_Editor and there are already several branches from there, such as in the Editing Manual section. There are also several links to pages which have not been re-written or discarded as a link due to no longer be relevant, so there is much work still to do.

Any feedback, go ahead and leave it. But this is a wiki, so it belongs to the community. I'm just kickstarting it.

Welcome to the Waze Editing Community....

The first place to start is to look at the Waze Welcome Page. Also, please look at the Edits to Avoid page.

Tennessee has its own specific page where you can find information regarding the State Managers or Area Managers who can assist and guide you. There is also a section regarding the local editing community you can join.

To answer your specific question, information on editor ranks can be found on this page.

I have made some edits and added more info to pages this morning.

The quick-start guide has been created, using the Editing Manual thread as the baseline. I think we can unsticky that thread now. It still needs some basic items added per gettingthere's bulleted list.

Shift key in keyboard shortcuts: I'm not sure they belong there as a keyboard shortcut is an action all to itself, whereas Shift for roundabouts and zooming is just a modifier. If y'all think it belongs, then go ahead and add it.

I tried to reword some of the m, a, s, shift-a shortcuts, but haven't spent much time on it. Not sure if they are better now or not.

If the keyboard shortcut for Linux is wrong, then someone who knows what it really is should change it.

Darren, I tried to be non-US centric, but I admit that it is easier said than done due to "just not knowing," you know? Please provide guidance or update text as appropriate. I am aware that the over/layers doesn't match, but I am hopeful we get to a common view soon.

Not sure what you mean by this bit

'twas meant to be "Overlays/layers" are currently different on the world server.
dmcconachie wrote:But I wonder if you could maybe find some way to squeeze into here that we have our own version of the guideline here?
I am sure there is. Since you're already looking ... why don't you add that in? ;)

Excellent. I write a lot too, but not very well. :)

One thing I found is that editing by section scrunches everything together, whereas I like an extra wide space between sections.

You killed me. I did pretty it up a bit. :)

I also added that the Mac has dual keyboard shortcuts as Ctrl and Cmd mirror each other.

And since I'm here, I encourage everyone to refer to the manual when answering questions from users. If something isn't there which should be, add it, or let me know. I encourage the direct editing because I cannot be a bottleneck for getting proper information into the wiki.

With the recently posted cameras info from Krankyd, which is really a repost of what Nir had posted a couple (a few?) weeks ago, I am just now starting on the Cameras details page which will give more information than the Map Editor Interface and Controls page.

shawndoc wrote:And what percentage of NA users have manually edited editing their config file? I'm guessing <1%.
Likely so. And even if they did, it is likely that their toll road isn't updated in the map yet because we didn't cross the 90% threshold until August 17. The next map update cycle which includes August 17 will be when we enable toll road avoidance in the US.
