Tip added for the "moved beyond the allowed limit" error

Postby AlanOfTheBerg » Wed Oct 05, 2011 6:14 am

I just added a new tip to the Tips and Hints page:

When the error checker is working, and you move the end of a segment a significant distance from its original ending or beginning location, such as when a section of road is missing and you are stretching a segment across the gap, you may get an error reading, "Could not save changes: Some elements were moved beyond the allowed limit."

Here are some workarounds:
  • Adjust the end a shorter distance and save, then repeat until the full gap is crossed.
  • Split the segment into two or perhaps more smaller segments.
Draw a new road, which you can stretch as much as you like before saving (often requires draw, pan
  • map, stretch, pan map, etc.)

In the current state, we are currently just getting generic errors, so if you can't figure out which of your 389 changes might be causing the problem, this could be one of them.

Dunno. I found that splitting is a bit faster.

But not available in the 'new Cartouche'...

Sure it is. Using the methods linked to in the wiki version of the OP text.

Sorry, this is splitting as in "inserting a junction in the middle of a segment" not splitting a 2-way to a 1-way.

A few weeks ago when I was splitting a large portion of the I- 8 freeway in Southern California, I had to do just this. For large sections. Extend highway, save. Extend further, save. Extend too far, save error, shorten, save again.

I wonder what the specific reason is that Waze is limiting the current roads being extended? To minimize city smearing?

Ok. My mistake. Haven't tried that yet.

I am rarely splitting. More unsplitting due to U Know Who.

Although isn't unsplitting the feature that causes some type of issue with junctions and allowed turns that has be be corrected in the old_cartouche? Or maybe my memory is failing me - side effect of too much map editing...
