Bodies of water are now places!

Hey guys,

We are happy to announce a change in handling bodies of water in WME, currently in the INTL environment only: as of now they’ll appear in the editor as places, meaning you can take control and edit them. This will enable the community to handle situations of inaccurate locations easily.

We only imported bodies of water under 10KM in size, which covers the vast majority of such places.

Please note that bodies of water were not imported when there was a match to a place in the same location, but in some cases we may have missed the match and you may therefore find a few duplicate places.

I know those would be useful to boaters, especially things like speed zones in the water. However, Waze is only for land-based motor vehicles, and using it on bikes, places or boats could damage the data recorded on nearby roads, so anything that would not benefit the driver of a land-based motor vehicle should not be mapped. However, I could see making point places for boat launches, since you would obviously drive to those with your boat in tow. For more info, see https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Edits_to_avo ... 7s_purpose. I know that's a USA page, but Waze has the same purpose all over the world.

A question crossed my mind when I first found the need to use this feature:

What category overlays the other? is it the island category or the sea/lake/pool category?

What will happen if I removed the empty space for the sea/lake/pool feature surrounding the island feature? will the island disappear from the live map?

Roads in Dammam, Al Khubar, and other Saudi cities along the Arabian Gulf (Persian Gulf) cost are all drowning.

I think a good solution would be to merge big islands or water bodies into the infrastructure every 2 years or so. Or have them separated into their own layer in WME.

This would make it officially acceptable as a solution which the community can be involved in.

This sounds promising, but if I'm checking, as an example, 30% of the city of Abu Dhabi is "in the water".
