Adding 'speed-limit' data to Waze map

Post by Unholy
Greetings fellow Wazers of the world!

It's almost here - The "Speed-Limit" feature.
Our goal is the show you, the Wazers, what is the legal speed limit on the road you're driving on and to warn you when your leg becomes a bit too heavy on the pedal.

In order for us to do so, we need data:

We opened the speed limit data option in WME in several countries (Italy and France for example), collecting data that we'll use for the speed limit feature in the app. So far it's going great and we want to thank our amazing communities for their help - the community proved to be the most accurate and fresh data source yet again :)

The idea is to add the speed limit to segments:
After we collect data about enough segments (around 10K), we can run a prediction algorithm which will add speed limits to all segments in the country. Once 90% of the highways speed data is verified by the community the feature can go live.

Join the teams of editors in country to help add the speed limit data to the highways and freeways.

For more information, check your local forums.

Important edit: This is still not working in North America. We are working on it.

Thanks,

Ori

Wat do you exactly mean with "highways". Does this include freeways, minor and majors highways? Or only freeways? Just to be sure :)
Good question, but really, it should be added to ALL segments. Highways and freeways are the higher-volume roadways on which more people drive and speed limit data may be more important first. Just like when the Waze map was new in the US, we concentrated on the major infrastructure roadways first (highways and freeways) which connect cities, and then moved into updating more local streets.
