Yext_Import reconcillation question

Post by JohnDoeOnTheGo
In the SWR we were discussing the Yext_Imports and how to handle them. We are under direction to accept duplicates and then merge them to bring them up to standards. I asked the question there about a few cases that I ran across were the businesses were being run from a home address and how to handle them.

Some of these residential locations may be a place where people would benefit from routing to them. Examples would be farms with markets, homes with services like CPA (mine operates out of his house part-time for tax deduction purposes), and things like that. Others may only be services that are offered offsite. For instance, a maid service where her website states they do estimates at your home and makes no mention of open hours or their home address for consultations

In short, I'm not expecting a black/white answer on all residential places, but if we make a well thought out judgment that the services are highly unlikely to be offered at the residential location, do we accept anyway or is it OK to reject those cases. I know I'm off into the minutia here and this likely doesn't represent very many cases but wanted to have a dialogue about it.

What do you all think about these particular imports and how to handle them.

In NOR we have come across some imports for places that have service areas and not firm addresses. Some of these businesses do not have a storefront or shop per say, but they travel to you (contractors for example).

Example: Quality Pallet Company

In Google Maps it does not show an address pin but a large radius and no option to edit the address. In WME you can't link it as an external provider (at least some of them).

Also in Italy we are finding a lot of YEXT places, starting right from today.
Obviously often in wrong positions, so as to be totally useless for end users :D

Short answer: unless there's an obvious retail situation going on at the location (farm stand, or whatever) it should not be mapped.

Even people like your CPA most likely operate by appointment, when doing business from their home, they don't usually want people showing up at their door out of the blue.
Delete any of these residential Yext imports without an obvious retail location. Or, you can waste a lot of time calling each one to find their preference. In the past, the results have been overwhelmingly that home business operators do not want their business searchable in the map.
