Cul-de-sac roundabout

Post by pnordi
Hi all,

Relatively new editor here looking for confirmation. According to the best mapping practice wiki, "a roundabout should never be used in place of an end-node on dead-end or cul-de-sac streets". Is this how a roundabout should never be used?

I will clean them up if that is the case.

Thanks!

The problem I have experienced with extending the road to the outer perimeter of the bulb is difficulty in munching the entire road and establishing average times. Waze will only fully register a drive across a segment if you cross the junctions at both ends. So a street that is really a dead end, or a street where the only Wazer lives mid-block, or a cul-de-sac that is "too long" will cause problems in establishing historical data since both junctions are not traversed. Probably minor problems in this case since it is a dead end, but problems none the less. You can see these effects when a base mapped cul-de-sac shows as one-way or un-munched when you know it has had traffic.

By ending in the middle of the bulb, we are PROBABLY in a position that is easily traversed when someone turns around.

If there is an island in the middle, then we'd probably shift to the outer perimeter of the inner island.

But the outer edge of the cul-de-sac itself may be too far away to reliably hit if someone turns around ASAP. Especially if aerials are off a bit and the end point ends up in someone's front yard instead.

I've been removing a ton of roundabouts based on the info in this thread. Then I came across this:

Should I remove this one as well?
