Looking for advice on U-turns

Post by HeyRobb
Hey all,

I've been glancing through user guides/wikis on managing U-turns and am unable to locate exactly how to handle this issue. Here is an example of what I'm trying to help solve:

https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=7&lat ... 7,67078179

Between these segments, a U-turn is permitted. But there are also permitted U-turns all along 441/SR-7 in both North and South directions. The easiest 'solution' (although I don't bellieve it would be) would be to add a one-way road between these segments from north-to-south.

I don't believe it would be appropriate for Wazers to see a bunch of small road segments along their route (u-turn permitted areas), but I don't know how to help solve this issue.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

I appreciate the help, but that confused the you-know-what outta me. I took a look at the intersection and tried to apply what you were suggesting. Unfortunately, I think I'm applying what your saying to the wrong segments. If there is any way you can clarify which segments I can make the appropriate changes to, I would appreciate it. Still pretty new to this stuff, and I have a tendency to over complicate things a great deal. Just don't want to make incorrect changes to the maps.

Thanks for all of your help!

My apologies, I included the wrong Permalink in my original post. I updated the Permalink in my original post as well as included it here.

Thanks again!

Looks like it should be fine. If the turn does come up too last-minute, just move the junction with the left-turn lane further south.

Possible reasons to elongate the left-turn lane would be:
  • a physical barrier between it and the other lanes
  • insufficient advance warning of the maneuver
  • inbound roads that are too close to the intersection to safely cross traffic
It looks like the first is not the case (painted line only); as for the other two, I would need a wider picture of the area.

I believe it is 15m in the US, and 10m in Rest of the World.

One more thing to keep in mind on U-Turn lanes, Waze won't route on them if they are both unnamed and under 15m in length.

Just make that straight across. You don't need to map the entire turn lane.

I added an "H" connector to allow Waze to route legal U-turns there.

Is there another preferred way of dealing with "missing road" errors that are a result of legal U-turns?
No need for the additional road. Waze can already route U-Turns there using the existing roads.

Why would you be adding segments?
If we're refering back to this query:

then yes I mark MPs like that not identified or solved.
