The only problem with a sandbox is that it's nearly useless for testing unless you can actually drive on it. But what you're describing is great for demonstrating things to people without interfering with live maps.

No matter where you put it, someone will see it and question it. I had one in the middle of a large lake and I got URs and eventually the attention of one of the developers.

Gizmo has a cornfield that he uses to test TTS, but I don't think there's any more room there.

There's lots of land available in Nevada and Arizona too, typically not near anything. New Mexico probably too...

NO!!!! Please!!!! Don't put nonexistent stuff in New Mexico. We're trying really hard to get New Mexico updated without having bogus stuff there.

Area Manager for southern New Mexico.

Noooo...not random Nevada (or Arizona), please!

I recommend picking an Army proving ground or Naval Air Base. There shouldn't be any drivers there ever. If there are, they won't be there for very long. :D

Although Bonneville Speedway would be fun, I agree that any test sections really need to be in an area where cars will never go. Military test areas are great places because they are almost always vacant, far from populated locations, have no road access and mostly flat.

You also don't run into private property issues where we're drawing roads on someone's property out there.

Parks / national forest/ BLM lands don't work well, because the public will eventually wander in there, no matter how remote you think it is.

I know. That's my little part of the world for showing other CMs different things about road sections/segments, instead of changing actual city streets in a town. I picked a wide open area in the west Texas area of ranch land and farm land.
