House numbers will be down for a while

Hi guys,

We'd like to change the house numbers mechanism in WME from editing by ranges to editing pinpoints.

As we can't work on the new mechanism while the old one is active, we will need to temporarily remove the house numbers section from the editor.

We will start working on it in the upcoming days and we estimate that it will take about a month to reactivate house numbers in its new format.

We will provide a 24 hours notice before it's removed.

Thanks,

Shirli

Yes! Please make sure they don't have to actually be attached to a segment. :)

Testing of the new house numbers is in process in the beta editor. There are some issues they still need to address and some additional functionality. Waze also put out this thread as part of ensuring the editor will be able to satisfy addressing requirements globally. The following was also sent out to all Waze champs globally, which also is directly related to addressing:
General query pattern
Where is the house number usually located? Beginning of search line? End?
Where is the zipcode usually located?
What does the zipcode look like? How long? Is it made of digits/letters?
Examples for typical search queries in your country:
Searches with house number
Searches with zipcode
Full searches - searches that include all address components: street, city, state, country
Partial searches - searches that only include some of the address components. For example, searches that include only the street name without indicating the city.
Searches for streets that contain numbers in their name (5th ave for example), if such streets are common in your country.
House numbers
What’s the house numbering system in your country? we are aware of 2 sides of a road, one side even and one side odd numbers, ascending or descending. Do you use the same system? If not please elaborate.
Are there any mandatory alphanumeric characters (- / # etc) which are integral part of the house number?. If yes, what the rules?
It is likely that the NA editor will get house numbers much further ahead of the World editor due to more regular and standardized address numbering in Canada and the US compared with the myriad types around the globe.

So, things are still in process and it will likely be many more weeks/months before they will be online globally.

FYI, we received an update to the editor addressing code today. Good stuff, including the ability to force addresses which aren't fitting into the expected numbering scheme, and defining where the "entrance" on a road is independent of the address location relative to the road. So, a house has a curving driving, for example, the actual address location may be at on point closest to the road, but the driveway/entrance is further away. We can now specify to Waze where the "nav stop point" should be for that address.

It is still on beta testing and is NOT ready for release. There are some bugs which are causing issues at this time. No eta yet.

Tapatalk made me do it.

That sounds to me like they'll release it now!
If they can fix the big things in the next beta round, we'll be good to go. Optimistically, this could be 3 weeks.

No. We are waiting for developers to release a new version with more granular ability of determining the stop point for a house number. It is not always the segment closest to the address.

House numbers cannot contain anything except numbers.
Is this going to be true?
For now. The developers are aware of this, however.
Only numeric takes care of the majority of house numbers globally. Allowing letters will come next, but not in the first release of the new method.

How far apart are the houses numbered 18A and 18D for example?

I disagree. It's an iterative process. The perilous implementation had no ability for non-numerical. Can't say why, I don't know. The new version is a new interface and some more abilities on top on the existing ability. Next will come addresses with alpha and other characters.

As noted in many other threads about house numbers, the routing server and app are not yet ready for the in-Waze house numbers. In the next month or two, though, we should be able to see them in action.
