Tutorial for update map

Hi, can anyone teach me how to use the map to edit? I'm clueless about what the function of the live map and update map is about? It shows me all the red and blue lines that I had created while driving, but then, i can only click it and choose select as new road and that's it? Then I wanted to create a new road, but it just draw a line, nothing else? Hope someone can enlighten me or bring me to a link for some basics to edit the map. Thank you!
