Sea

Post by manu2verdun
Hi,

I'm a new AM, living near the sea.

How could I represent the ocean ?

On the droid, the map is full of land, without the sea (which is 500m away)

thanks

I have found that the sea never changes on the live map, you only ever see it in the editor and the client. I broke it into patches and it works quite well in the client.

e.g., see http://world.waze.com/cartouche/?zoom=0 ... FFFFFFTTTT

Hi

On the client(Android) ocean often is big gray sqaures instead of sea... It looks good when zoomed far out, but when getting closer they appear. Are my oceans too large? Example (on client): http://world.waze.com/livemap/?zoom=6&l ... yers=BTTTT

And islands....they are meant to appear as land?

Well, it works,

but....

The result is weird in some case.

On the live map, only the biggest tile is shown. Smallest aren´t

And on the client, when you're close, it´s ok, but when you're looking with a smallest scale, the ocean is just a small lake :) in the middle of a hudge land....

Is there a way to create land in a similar way? Or anything in the works for this?
Large parts of my home city is underwater on the livemap.

When the water is not available in the default background, you can add it as a landmark (type of other ocean/sea). Please note the known issue with landmarks where you don't want to cross the lines when creating the borders. Also don't try to create the whole beach in one landmark. It is okay to break it up into several.

I have tried making ocean/sea in large blocks, small blocks, overlapping, not overlapping.

I have still not found any solution that works.

Large blocks: do not show up in client unless zoomed out far.
Small blocks: never align up perfectly and leave gaps in between.
Overlapping blocks: sometimes works just fine, other times makes a real mess.
Almost touching blocks: always makges edges that at certain zoom levels show as white non-sea space in between.

I have even made areas that are not showing up unless being only at 1 zoom level, closer or further away and the sea disappears.

I would realy like to get some guidelines as to how to get this working correctly...
