WME v1.6 Release - Official Feedback Thread

Post by
Hey guys! a new editor version is upon us with many new exciting features.

First I should clarify that this version will only be available in North America for a bit while we finish setting up some things behind the scenes. This will take some more time (a few weeks) and then it will also be available in the World and Israeli environments.

So... whats new?

Places
  • Landmarks are now renamed to 'Places'
  • There can be places of Points / Area types
  • Area places can have a defined navigation point that the routing will work with
  • Each place can have a defined street / house number
  • New categories - each place can have multiple categories, and new more useful categories have been defined.
Closed problems display - both MPs and URs from the last week are displayed.

New much better looking layer panel

Links from live map to the editor now take you to the correct zoom level

Links from the editor to the livemap (header) now lead you to the same location

Elements are automatically selected after you draw them for the first time

New handsome UR / MP / turn icons

We have increased segment width a bit so it is easier to select

And a few more minor bug fixes.

There are some known issues:
  • Some places are missing - during the migration from the old to the new system some places did not make it - we are working on restoring them. It is a bit more common in Canada.
  • Overlapping places - in a few places there are duplicate or very similar Places on of top of another. It is safe to delete one of them.
Both these issues are quite rare.

Please let us know if you see any additional issues or have any feedback at all.

EVERYONE: Please read the guidelines for the new Places POI features. There are guidelines for how to standardly map each type of POI:

Indeed, it appears Places are locked and cannot be added or updated yet.

Looks like we missed this in testing: when a Place is selected, the left sidebar still reads "One landmark selected" Could we get a quick update to fix that?

They are still there. Some browsers don't pick up on the changes right away. Cache and force reload usually does it.

They are working on unfreezing it.

Nagamasa wrote:Clarification: Points are effectively (in the old system) landmarks that are less than 50 m that are mappable?
Please see the Places wiki page for how each category should be mapped.
Nagamasa wrote:Also: I'm having trouble clicking on areas and points that are inside another area. It's not clicking-through. Work around is to edit the bigger area so i can "reach" inside.
Points are layered on top of Areas, but Area layer is not so easy. I am not sure if it is possible to make "completely overlapped" Areas always pop on top of the larger, but that's a good idea.

That is a great idea.

qwaletee wrote:1) The term Car Service, in the US, is used to mean a type of taxi. I believe the intended ter is Automotive Services
"Automotive Services" seems reasonable.
qwaletee wrote:2) Since there are so many types, and so many rules, it will be difficult to edit correctly, and even more difficult for area managers to check the work of others. Can I suggest that descriptions include the consensus guidance? Yes, that will be different for each country, but for now, since only the US and Canada have this feature, it should not be an enormous stress.
We've never had much luck getting Waze to implement messages within the editor, like something that pops up the first time someone uses a feature, or something pops up on the next 5 logins or something like that. We've been asking for it for years.

It would be nice to be able to show/hide them as an option.
This was requested as an option late in the beta cycle. Visible closed URs were added to the beta on Monday, two days before production release. We didn't have much time to provide feedback.

IMO, they look quite difference and aren't hard to distinguish.
