A Waze first: Road closed due to prostitutes

Post by yogi_fuggin_bear
I'm sorry, I really had to share this one.

A UR popped up on a road I know pretty well due to heading to grad school and I stopped using it after finding a better route through Waze. I haven't taken this road for several months because of that, but it was always undergoing directional road closures due to building demolitions and gas/water main upgrades.

So when a UR popped up yesterday I immediately thought it was the same thing... Nope. It's closed due to prostitutes:

Here's a portion of the strip that puts you in the middle of it. They shut off the minor ways in but left the primary street intersection open: https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lo ... s=38714532

In downtown Washington, the city prohibited right turns at certain intersections during nighttime hours only in the 1980s to stop customers from circling the block cruising for prostitutes. The funny thing is that 30 years later, the area has been totally redeveloped and the prostitutes are long gone, but the no-right-turn signs are still there!
