I suggest there is another powerful use for Snapshot mode:
Allow authorized users (L4+ in the USA) to enable closures while in Snapshot mode.

For example, segment 000001 may have been cut since the last tile update, creating segments 000002 and 000003. In the standard WME view, only 000002 and 000003 are available to be selected and closed using the real-time closure tool. However, if enabled, the Snapshot WME view would show 000001, and with a change by either the script author or WME development team, realtime closures could be implemented on 000001.

Thoughts?

The script author has no control in the behaviour of snapshot mode, the script only enables you to see the toggle. This is better discussed in the beta forum

FYI: this script no longer works in beta since they got rid of the header where the 'Enable Snapshot Mode' link is put.

Maybe inside settings tab would be a suitable alternative? Or maybe Waze will create their own button for it?

For the time being, you can use the bookmarklet. Tested & works in beta.

I will think of something.. but in my opinion, a tab would be an overkill for a simple feature (we already have so many tabs..)

I am probably going to make a camera icon and put it in the bottom right corner near the permalink :)

If you're worried about adding a new tab you might want to append to an existing tab like settings. A camera icon works too though. You can even put the camera icon up top to the left of the tools icons.

Editor pre-release update:

Snapshot mode is listed as a Waze Staff tool in the β.I do not feel comfortable releasing it in the future editor.. when it has the staff title attached to it. In the β editor, you are supposed to "have permission" in order to use the tool. I am trying to reach out to waze staff to request direct contact.. but until then, I don't feel comfortable to publish it. Waze does have a built in activator (like the current editor). I can't say much more without risking it. Please standby.

Just don't remove the script. This is 500% useful tool for any editor.

I received permission for it before the initial release from staff for you. Let me know what changed, and what you need.

I have just tried the bookmarklet. It doesn't seem to show me anything different from what is currently on the map, even after I make noticeable changes.

Then I tried the 1-line tampermonkey script, and did not see anything new added to the top bar.

Is there something else I need to do to make these work? Is some other javascript interfering?
