[Script] WME MT GIS Map - Montana State, US

Post by MacroNav
WME MT GIS Map - For State of Montana, US

https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/367856-wme-mt-gis-map

This script is useful to provide a consolidated map of GIS resources to use as a reference while you edit in WME. It includes current live data from Federal, State, County, and City governments that utilize ArcGIS services, and presents them together in one view. In this way you can see the source of each data point to determine the proper name and other information about a road or place.

This script will open an ArcGIS map in a new tab at the current position and extent as your WME view. As you pan and zoom around the WME window, it will update the ArcGIS map, keeping in in view. You can move the ArcGIS tab to another screen to use as a reference as you edit in WME. If you zoom or pan the ArcGIS map, it will not update WME – but as soon as you move WME, the ArcGIS map will be updated to the new position.

The script is based on prior work from MapOMatic, is cloned with his permission, and has been added to WazeDev Github so the development community can maintain the code in perpetuity.

The bulk of the work for this project is not in the script, but in the ArcGIS map. It takes considerable effort to locate GIS resources, add them to the map, and configure their parameters. This is an ongoing process, and thankfully improvements to the map can be made without changing the script.

To Launch the map, click the text button in the bottom of the WME screen:

When the map is synced, the text button will be green:

If you pan around the ArcGIS map, the WME window will not update – to sync it back to the WME position, just click the text again, or pan/zoom WM. If you refresh the WME window, it’ll lose sync, but hitting the text should reconnect it. If not, it’ll open another window and you can close the old one.

When the ArcGIS map opens, you’ll see a pane on the left showing a legend. If you click the “Content” button, you’ll see a list of the many layers. If you are zoomed in editing an area, only some of these layers will be active and have data in the area you’re working. You can adjust which layers display by checking/unchecking the boxes in front of them. Note imagery is not shown by default, but you can enable it by scrolling to the bottom of the list.

If you click on a road or place point on the map, a popup will open containing details of that object. Note that because a road may be included in several sources, there will often be arrows at the top of the popup that you can click to look at the data from each source. In this way, you can compare data from county and state sources to apply the appropriate information to the Waze map. Some pop-ups for places even have pictures and links to websites.
