Awesome, I didn't know that! But yea, it's the reloading the editor part I wanted to avoid.

Here's a pro tip for now: at least in Chrome for Mac, you can drag the "open in new WME tab" link to the current tab in your browser's tab bar and have it open in the menu. It does, however, reload the editor.

And again, thank you for the suggestion. I completely agree that the specials should be on by default.

Hi, love the script. However, I usually forget that I have URs filtered and continue to edit. I was hoping that you could add an option that would allow notes, construction, closures, etc. to show up no matter what filtering you have selected. Or if there is an easy way to do this now, can someone point it out to me?

Taco909 wrote:Interesting... what is the closure policy on [NOTE]?

Any special URs should be closed only after the conditions they describe expired, sometimes indefinitely. A [CLOSURE] or [EVENT] UR for example can safely be closed say a week after the closure expires, if there is no continuing conversation.

I should have been more specific.

I meant from the Waze side of things... is there anything to prevent an L1 on a "7 day rule" closing spree from closing them?

Well not really. You can send a gentle but firm welcome PM to that editor with clear links to the wiki/UR#Not identified page section which discusses the criteria for closing URs. The "7 day rule" is for stagnant URs with not enough information to determine the problem. Is the problem is clearly described, and you personally just don't have the ability, skill, or knowledge to fix it, there is no "7 day rule".

With these URs they are usually very descriptive of the problem, the reporter is usually an experienced (somewhat at least) editor and will usually respond to conversation replies and PMs within 7 days. So unless the problem they define no longer applies - there is a problem, which the new editor can't fix, and therefore by guidelines the UR should be left alone.

If there's a recurring or damaging problem from an editor, who isn't responding to a well written professional PM with links to the guidelines in the wiki, and an explanation of why what they are doing isn't good. Then it needs to be escalated to the RC so they can be educated or restricted from further damaging the map.

As ian mentioned when these are closed, the reporter gets an email with a link to the UR and the text, it only takes a few clicks to replace them. Talking from experience

TwisterUK was very kind to give us an arsenal of tools for handling the 'clutter issue as well. These URs have different types and icons, and are immediately identified as not something you have to try to solve. They can hidden from view as a group by type if the clutter hurts your eyes.

I requested earlier (which started this mini off-topic rant) and I'll paraphrase here The option for these URs to display the special icon to anyone with URO+ installed should be Checked (on) by default. This has garnered some support, and hopefully can be implemented making these more visible to editors on a close and don't read spree stay away from them.

As a side this discussion is only tangentially related to the script and I apologize for the long detailed response. I had no intention of hijacking the thread. Back to regular scheduled programming. If this UR closure discussion must continue, it should be moved to the WME forum.

Or anyone at any level who prefers a clean and uncluttered map. Different Area Managers -- different rules.

I prefer a clean and uncluttered map that is devoid of URs because the problems have been fixed, not simply ignored and closed only to be reported again. Until we are able to make more positive contact with reporters (which will never happen), this is all we have.

Like I said... a single 6 month old UR with no details? Sure... shoot them a note and close it in a week. A cluster of various ages indicates there is a real problem that needs to be identified. Closing the older ones may remove useful GPS and routing track information, and may hide the scope of the problem.

Not in this area.
Red roads, closed URs, no response to PMs, etc...

Nothing at all. These "special" notes are in no way special to Waze at all. I invented the UK Roadworks system and we started tagging all roadworks URs with [ROADWORK]. Twister-UK then did the fantastic job of giving them a different icon via URO.

When HQ declared that editors should no longer use railroads for notes, and it became clear they weren't going to provide something suitable, the system of tagged URs was simply extended to cover other tags.

Of course, if the UR is closed then (a) the person who raised it & anyone following it will be notified and (b) it stays on the map for a while and can be easily replaced.

When we finally got conversations on URs, I remember there were a lot of reports of them being closed by new editors who shouldn't have done so. I was ust thinking last night that the incidence of this is way down on what it used to be. Maybe they're learning?
