GLR Minimum Road Lock Standard

Postby hawkeygoal » Sun Jan 17, 2016 3:45 pm

The newly-formed Standards Drafting Working Group for the region is trying to finalize the push started last year to establish a minimum segment locking standard.

Please reply to this forum thread with any questions or helpful feedback about the proposed standard, which can be found HERE.

Editors interested in participating in a small working group to draft standards before being sent out for the region's consideration should contact their State Manager(s). The group is currently working on several draft proposals.

Thanks!

I would like to see this finally come to a head and get approved.

If anyone has any reason to delay this going into policy please speak up now.

Would PLRs and dirt roads also get +1 locking for one-way segments?

Thanks for the question.

We're not addressing one-way dirt and PLR segments in the proposed standard.

There isn't anything that would prohibit a state from deciding to introduce that locally.

My only comment is I think the construction should read "3 or one level higher than the normal locking standard, whichever is greater."

High lock levels are a signal to other editors to pause and check before editing something, and I think calling that out explicitly in the standard would be beneficial

We could always lock higher if needed. The most important thing is setting a minimum lock standard.
