2017 First Annual Mid-Atlantic Regional Meetup

Post by stephenr1966
First Annual MAR Meetup:

Meetup Date:

19-20 August 2017 (Saturday and Sunday)

Location:

The 2017 meetup will be hosted in the Washington, DC Metro Area

Venue

Our first annual Mid-Atlantic Meetup will be hosted at The Watergate!

Registration

Please register as soon as possible so that we can all plan accordingly. Registration can only be held open until 19 June 2017 due to time constraints with booking flights and hotel rooms. Earlier is better, though. We only have 40 seats available so get yours now.

Registration is closed.

Special Guests:

We've confirmed two staff members, at least one from Waze HQ, will be in attendance. MapSir, the Waze staff member who serves as the Community Manager for the US, is one of our confirmed staff members!

Financial Support:

Waze will pay or reimburse for:
  • Travel costs (either gas + hotel parking OR airfare)
  • One night stay in the hotel where the event will be hosted
  • Some buffet-style meals, catered by the hotel
    • Saturday
      • Lunch
      • Snacks/coffee/soft drinks
    • Sunday
      • Breakfast
      • Snacks/coffee/soft drinks
Rough Agenda:

Saturday:

There will be a series of presentations from senior editors and Waze staff. The meeting room is booked from 11:00am until 5:00pm. We might run over some depending on Q&A.
Details:
11:00-12:00 Welcome & Introductions
12:00-13:00 Lunch Buffet
13:00-14:15 Break
14:30-17:00+ Presentations + Q&A

For dinner, editors will be invited to join an optional, pay-your-own-way organized dinner event after we finish up on Saturday but are equally free to make their own plans.

Sunday:

Much less structure to this day, "come if you can, leave when you need to" type day.

Expect a very free-form setting where you can meet other editors you've only talked to online before and have impromptu face-to-face breakout discussions on topics of common interest, etc.

Sunday breakfast buffet will be served from 07:30-08:30.
The meeting room is ours until noon. I hope that most of you can at least stop in on the way out and chat for a bit. Maybe we can even answer those nagging questions that always hit you an hour after the meeting. ;)

Thank you and looking forward to seeing everyone,
Stephen

(P.S. I will edit this post and reply to it as we get more details. Please stay tuned.)

Looks like I missed this and it was only a few weeks ago. Guess I will have to wait until next year -- and spend more time on the forum instead of just sticking to MD & PA GHOs.

Yes all three have great facilities that will meet our needs.

Like anything else there are pluses and minuses on each as far as what attractions are near, access to metro, amount of traffic for those who drive, view out the hotel room window, access to shopping if you have a significant other coming with you.

So do you take a casino/Mount Vernon, the Pentagon and its 9/11 memorial, or the heart of DC with all its museums, parks, and memorials?

One thing the DC metro area has is a wide cosmopolitan selection of restaurant typess and there are some in each of these facilities and many others w/in walking distance. For those late night editors there might even be facilities to temp a few minutes away from the keyboard.....

So looking forward to seeing everyone. Signups coming soon (TM)....

I defer to Terry on this one, but they had a separate CC conference in DC last year that editors (other than the Waze CC Coordinators) couldn't attend so not sure what Waze's rules are on attendees.

For those of you that indicated you would need a flight to the meetup. Please fill out this form ASAP! Our staff party planners just realized that the new event planner company needs the info to book flights sooner than expected.

Please fill out form as soon as humanly possible.

NOTE: if you have changed your mind and plan to drive, still fill out the form. There is option on first page to say don't need flight and we would really like to have confirmation that all are covered.

David,
About a million questions ran through my mind, but my general feeling is an emphatic YES! I am all for building relationships with our Government Partners.

Small sampling of the million questions. Don't need to answer here/now. Just the first few that came to mind.
Does he want to make a presentation?
Is he interested in editing for Waze (kinda seems like a busmans holiday)?
Is MD-SHA a CCP Partner? If not, are they interested and is he in a position to make it so?

The hotel search is in full swing and we are all super excited for our first annual regional meetup!

Planning to have the specific venue locked in by April and publish the signup sheet on Saturday, 29 April 2017. Waze will only cover 38 editors and expect the list to fill up fast. Mark the days on your calendar and register early.

TerryPurdue wrote:It's out of our hands at this point; volunteers submit three proposals to staff who select the winner.

We make sure all three had easy access to-from Reagan National (DCA), restaurants, and any of the abundant tourist opportunities in the area.

Obviously there are pro/cons for each.

I totally agree, Terry. Very good job. I just can't help myself from expressing an opinion (asked for or not).
