Paving Roads

Post by traute
I am fairly new to the map editing but I am finding my way pretty easily around the editor however I ran into a small problem where I paved a road and then when I went back to edit it someone had beat me to it. Arent roads you pave just for you to deal with or are they fair game to who ever wants to edit them?

I spent over an hour driving around paving this new sub and someone else stole my points. :(

Waze Editors are in short supply! It is essential that anyone interested in editing be given every chance and whatever help is possible to learn, improve and hone their editing skills, especially on roads they pave themselves, simply because they would likely be familiar with all elements of the road segments newly paved.

Its a bit of a "lame duck excuse" when seasoned editors proclaim they never check creation date and creator. Many such editors would notice less! Some really daft excuses out there LOL!

I respectfully say to all editors - concentrate fully on every element of your editing and give newly paved road segment creators a reasonable chance to edit out their creation. This is a community effort after all.

I'm delighted to see that Waze is taking some measures to weed out some cheating.

As the safety roadside hoardings in Ireland say - "Get the point! Not the POINTS"

I'm happy to help any new editor contemplating becoming active in Ireland in whatever way I can.

On the other hand I'm also available to assist people who pave new road segments but are disinterested in editing. Message me with all pertinent data on any segments in one way or another and i will only be too happy to give whatever assistance I can.

Safe motoring with assistance from Waze Way to Go.

I usually look at the creation date and time for a red road (unnamed and probably not connected to anything) - if it was created within the last few days, then I leave it alone for the person who paved it to edit themselves, but if it's been sitting there for weeks or months and I know the area (and road name, connectivity and so on) then I go ahead and edit it.

(I used to edit any paved road as soon as I saw it until I got a PM from another editor who'd being doing a lot of paving asking me to give him a chance to edit what he'd paved - on one occasion, I'd edited all his paved roads before he even got home from the drive :) )

Us old time editors have gotten used to people paving roads, and not knowing that you have to go finish them in the editor. So it may happen that someone comes across and finishes some red lined roads if they look valid.

Thanks so much for your replies. I did wait a few days before editing online. So I am sure the person thought I wasn't gonna come online.

Welcome to Waze Editing, KennethSohHappy!

If you have just paved a road, you can start up the editor https://www.waze.com/editor/
and. in the left information pane, click on the tab that says "Drives"
You'll be able to zero in on your recent drive and quickly find the area that you paved.

Now, all you need to know is what to do with those newly-paved roads.
You will want to read about how to confirm your new road, and then move on to the sections about how to make sure it is connected properly to the other roads, with the turns set correctly. You might need to fix up the shape/geometry of your new road a little bit.

Along the way, be sure to ask plenty of questions in chat.
And have a look through this to help you get oriented toward the best editing practices: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Waze_Map_Editor/Welcome
