"gave wrong directins (sic.) --as if trying to get to address through the woods"

This UR is still open. Permalink: https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat ... TT&env=usa

I see no GPS track, just the route provided, which looks OK to me. Unfortunately the editor never seems to show enough of the route or GPS track to determine the problem, and the user never seems to provide enough information. I have no idea, for example, what this particular wazer put in for a destination.

General Error (user reported)
Problem: AJ.
Reported on: October 21
I'm afraid I can't help you. AJ's got just as much of a right to be there as you or anyone else does. It's a free country. What did AJ ever do to you that you've got such a problem with him/her, anyway?

Wrong Driving Direction (user reported)
Problem: I'm here.
Reported on: October 24
Sounds like you may have a self-esteem problem. Many qualified therapists are available to help.

(In all fairness, I wish the Waze app included the address of the destination in these URs. The user probably thought it did.)

Problem: "Took me to business buildings."

What I'd like to say: "Yeah, I don't like going to work either."

He or she must have moved to this area. I just saw a generic error with a description of "chinese food."

If another editor hadn't already commented, I might have been tempted to reply with "What is your problem with Chinese food? It is delicious!" ;)

I was so tempted to respond: "You could have just turned around." The location of this report tells me that this user could have made a U-Turn and ceased their unfortunate entrapment in "a neighborhood" within about 500 feet.

I'd be willing to bet their destination address was in that neighborhood, too.

Guess I'll just have to ask. I'm also going to guess this one's headed for the "Not Identified" pile.

I'd just tell them to report this using Hazard --> On Road --> Pothole. *shrug*

sockslabs wrote:I've found the reporter often doesn't recollect where they were when they filed the report, so I usually usually say something like "can you please provide more information on the 'general error' you reported on E. Main St. in Shrewsbury, MA?"
Similarly, my response is based on the type of error, and by observing UR responses of other editors in my area. What I do is this:

For a General Error:

"Hello, and thank you for your report on Main Street in Townburg. Unfortunately, I can't tell exactly what happened. What was the nature of the problem you experienced?"

Usually, the response to that one is crickets.

For Wrong Driving Direction:

"Hello, and thank you for your report on Main Street in Townburg. Unfortunately, as volunteer map editors, we can only see a small portion of the route Waze recommended and a small portion of the route you drove. I see that Waze suggested you to continue on Main Street but you turned left on School Street instead. (or, it seems that you followed the route that Waze suggested.) What was your destination?"

The response to that, if I even get one, is usually something like "Townburg Elementary School, Townburg, USA" at which point I check Google Maps for the location of the school. Or, a response like "2345 Main Street, Townburg, USA" at which point I check house numbers AND the pin location in Google Maps.

I think it would help if we could respond with some sort of template. I find myself typing the same words over and over again in response to URs.

If the town is ambiguous, I'll omit it. I used to live in sockslabs' neck of the woods, and one thing that struck me when I moved to MD is that town boundaries down here aren't quite as cut-and-dry as they are up in New England.

"Problem: wasaeaeaeseses"

How I wanted to respond: "Gezundheit."

How I actually responded: "Hello, and thank you for your report on Route 40 in Ellicott City. What was the nature of the problem you experienced?"
