thanks for Overview map. Here are some issues:
- opens upon page load (known bug)
- doesn't remember last size and position
- if hidden, you can't drag and move editor map in place where overview map was

Amazing!! I was surprised to see Toolbox load in the editor – but not that surprised, since I'd seen these topic notifications on my phone anyway. Still, I was surprised to see it so quickly! :D

Anyway, I'm not seeing the beta or live map links. IIRC, Oyyo simply disabled the entire external-links portion of Toolbox, so even if you removed all the other ones besides livemap and beta, the external-links portion will have to be reenabled. That's just my guess.

Unlike IE, Safari is standards-compliant and uses the same WebKit rendering engine as Chrome. Also unlike IE, WME works in Safari.

Safari is faster (in my perception) and far more resource-efficient (in fact) than Chrome on OS X. I use Safari for everything but Waze. Chrome is a battery hog; I could browse for 12 hours unplugged on Safari if I wanted to, even with a number of tabs open.

I used to edit in Safari back in the days of WazeBar, but that's gone now. I've built Chrome into a little Waze ecosystem — my entire bookmarks bar is filled with Waze stuff, for example — so I won't personally be going back to Safari for editing either way, but it's perfectly reasonable for an editor to wish to use Safari.

It's not. Not yet.

But it will be in 3.9 if all goes as planned.

Perhaps we could incorporate bgodettes "extraneous node remover" code. It's quite good.

PesachZ wrote:This is a great addition to the straighten segment tool. My only concern is how aggressive will this be with doglegs, or micro doglegs. I frequently add a single geometry node very close to the junction, sometimes so close it's only visible at high zoom, other times up to few meters from the junction, with the sole purpose of fine tuning the turn angles to affect instructions. I'm worried a script like this may delete those without the user being aware of what they were effecting (especially in mass edit mode).

Then you have nothing to worry about (unless bgodette's code was changed).

bgodette's segment simplifier ignores geometry nodes within a certain distance of segment endpoints for this very reason.

doctorkb wrote:It was tweaked very slightly -- the simplify(0.5) was leaving far too many in rounded curve areas, but after experimentation, I settled on 0.8. I didn't change any of the other code.

EDIT: oh yeah, the other change is that it stops when the edit count hits 100, and follows standard TB integration with that edit count monitoring. It alerts in the same way TB does, rather than the method used by the original (which also wouldn't stop at 150, but would only do 150 for each of the executions of the bookmarklet)

Got it. Though it's not to my taste, that should be fine.

Also – does it retain the part of the code where, if segments are selected, it will simplify only those segments?

I think it should stay as-is. It'd be too easy to get around by using "select within landmark" anyway.

Now that we have this it'd be nice if the simple segment highlight code was either removed or realigned to match the segment simplifier.

Correct, the script used within does not mess with geometry within the first or last several meters of a segment.

However – I do think that we should be careful with oversimplifying with the Toolbox iteration of the tool. Since it'll be used by many editors, it's best to play it safe.

KB, would you mind using the default simplification coefficient in the Toolbox version, and perhaps have your own version of the bookmarklet for personal use?

By the way, all, if you want to simplify geometry on only a few segments, just select those segments first. It should only mess with selected segments unless there are no selected segments.

For purposes of amplification, I want to second KB's point that this newly-incorporated simplify tool is MUCH, MUCH safer to use than "1" (straighten segment).
