Now that we can add Cameras via the WME, I wanted to change
"[[Camera|Cameras]] updates"
to
"Adding or editing [[Cameras]]"
Any opposition?

Also...
I've hearing rumblings that Champs were informed by Staff that HN edits/adds now force a tile rebuild. I was also forwarded this Forum Post (Posted by OrbitC, 01 Jun 2015).
Can we change "Adding or editing House Numbers in WME" to
"Adding or editing House Numbers in WME (Scheduled Update)"
Edited to show that editing a HN doesn't trigger an tile update, but does get updated regularly. confirmation from HQ pending via OrbitC.

I updated the page to include Speed Limits as a trigger update in the list as per staff statement here

Place creation can go live immediately, I've created public and residential places, and been able to route to them within minutes. (The search index may not update as quick so it may be hard to find a new place by name, but a a new residential place which updates routing destination worked perfectly within minutes for me this week. A way to test public places is to do a category search from nearby and you'll see it listed and Routable right away.voludu2 wrote:At one time, all changes to the map happened at the time the tile they were on was updated.
So "map tiles" covered all the ways map updates happened.
Now, "map updates" includes
* updates that happen when the tile is updated (such as new places, creation or edits to segments, house number) - some trigger tile update while others do not
* updates that happen immediately (such changes to place names and other place details (?), creation or edits to closures)
* updates to search index -- once a HN or residential place address is saved, it might be uploaded with the tile it is on, but might not replace previous results in the address search index until some future date
I would like to generalize this page to cover all the ways in which the map gets updated, call it "map updates" or something similar, and keep this current page title as a redirect.

The visual changes to the map like showing an area or changing its shape, only happen when the tile is built which will have to be triggered by a separate edit or the update cyclevoludu2 wrote:Thanks for that update. Do new area places of suffice to size also show up on the map within minutes? In the app after refresh? In live map?PesachZ wrote: Place creation can go live immediately,
With this correction to which things go in the "updated with tile" list and which go in the "updated immediately" list, what do you think of the concept of generalizing the existing page to include what all editors should know about what we know about when/how changes get "on the map" as well as when they become available for search?
This information could go under updates to what is available for search. The search index may not update as quick so it may be hard to find a new place by name, but a a new residential place which updates routing destination worked perfectly within minutes for me this week.

It was a factual change based on a direct statement from staff, no change to guidance, or implications on map editing behaviour. Just like I don't need a consensus period to update the new select entire street button location (if it were to change), I don't need preapproval here either. I did however post a notice of the simple change here in the public wiki forum for all to review. If anyone objects the change can and should be reverted pending discussion and a vote.

I like the idea perhaps map updates could be a new page of which title updates will be transcluded as a sectionvoludu2 wrote:Thanks for the wiki update.
How about the idea to generalize this page to cover "map update" instead of only "tile update". Is this a good plan?
