Do you mean spaces between the parameters, around the pipes, or spaces (line breaks) between templates for different editors, or something else entirely?

Good points. What if we change the generic speed camera section to be more succinct and universal for all state conditions. Then we move everything else to the optional section for each state to select.

The original intent of the State Template was to create consistency between states so that editors who edit across states could easily find the differences. I am not sure I follow the repetitive information references, unless you are proposing why we should change the camera section (then I do).

If you mean we should not put lots of details about things like the camera descriptions and how to recognize them since we already have a whole page on it, I would agree, but the group (or at least a few editors) was pushing to put more in the state page. If you see specific points that are repetitive, can you point them out?

Otherwise if neither of these, can you help me with an example where we have it what you described?

Bigger programmatic solutions:
  • Quick fix: Have most/all boilerplate collapsed, with a common expansion UI that editors are less likely to ignore.
  • Medium fix: Allow a method to have any section fully opt out of the boilerplate if it really works badly for that particular state.
  • Complex fix: A la carte boilerplate selection, possibly opting out of entire sections.
Let's confirm I follow the first section of the post then we can come back to this section.
I think by "repetitive" Qwaletee was referring to having these same large-ish chucks of text being repeated on every state page. If a new editor is editing across state lines and is them expected to read several different state wiki pages, it may start to get glossed over, it it may become hard to find the content unique to each state between all the template text.

Personally I feel that the repeating generic template text will begin to get glossed over the more you read on various pages. Because you've seen the exact blocks of text before your brain will automatically skim it, making it face so-to-speak, which in turn leaves the unique state content to focus on.

I vote for this as well, as long as the expansion link is clear

Under mapping resources section in the hard coded text for all states should we add a brief one sentence link to the page on not using external sources (Copyright)?

I still support modifying this text to remove reference to rank 3. The AM table should be for any AM or higher working in this state. The other editors table is for .... Other editors, those who are active, but choose not, or are not yet qualified to be an AM.

A brief notice that the other editors table can be started if it isn't set up yet would be nice.

When you create a new "Unique Page" you get this code at the top
<!-- This page is only viewed directly through a link from the state's "unique portion" page. Content on this page will be viewed in its entirety.--><noinclude>{{:USA/CommonState/ReturnPurge|{{SubPage2}}}}<br/></noinclude><!--
------ DO NOT MODIFY ABOVE THIS LINE -------- DO NOT MODIFY ABOVE THIS LINE ------>

Which is obviously not what happens
When you create a page for a unique portion; It creates a link to the the Cities and towns section of the main state page. So you can see your changes to that unique portion on the main state page.

There is a difference between the unique portion page and the unique page. Everything on the unique portion page is transcluded into the main state page. The unique page is a supplemental page for additional content which is linked from the main page.

Can we get some more guidance on moving the /Test page to the main landing page? The Move command is not an option when the state has an existing page.

Feel free to us MN/Test as an example...

Thank you for the great work!
It's an amin feature. When you're ready to move, just ask kent to help you out.

Sounds good. Can we add that detail to the instructions?
-Change Step 1 to reflect the need for Admin intervention. It currently alludes to a regular user using the Move command.
-Add the Admin intervention note again towards the end of the 23 steps.

Sound reasonable?
Yes, unless there no existing page for that state yet.

Each state can add whatever they want to the unique portion of the Community section on their wiki. If your state is ted in slack, by all means add a link to the channel, to the invite request etc. If not add info about whatever platform you are using. In NY and NJ we are hangouts, and that is listed in our wiki.

Is the new page ready for prime time?
