{DISCUSSION} Pages Nominated for Wazopedia GLOBAL wiki

Post by PesachZ
I am starting this thread as a placeholder for discussion. This thread will be linked to from each page which has been nominated to be included in the new Wazopedia global wiki.

Editors can discuss here if they feel a certain page should be nominated to be included as a Global page in the global instance of the soon-to-be new Wazopedia.
They can also use this thread to discuss if they think a page which has already been nominated for the global wiki, would be better left out of the global wiki, and instead belongs better in a local wiki.

Anyone interested in the conversation on which pages should be moved to the global wiki in the new Wazopedia structure, should subscribe to this thread. (Hint: I recommend all Wiki Masters subscribe [emoji6] )

For a complete list of all pages currently nominated for the global wiki, see the Google spreadsheet, or the wiki category list.

On the talk page there is a link to the forum thread to discuss changes on the page.

I've always heard (and so never looked) that the talk page was not used. If it's not SOP, I think it would be a good one.

I think we have a hole in our global page system still.

1. Most, if not all, the Global Wiki pages I have seen have no talk page data. As a user, when I go there to consider making a change, I see the info on the top of the page to come to this thread, but I don't see how I am supposed to make a change. It is not until I go to edit the page that I see the comment code telling me what to do. That is different from going to the talk page. So did we change our process or are we not complete in filling in all the talk pages on global pages? I would like to propose we instead consider an expand box with the same current information in that template at the top, but below the expand line we include the content from the comments on the page to come to Wiki Updates forum for the page.

2. On the global pages at the top I see the following comment code:

Code: Select all

<!--if the section parameter is defined, do not place the visible banner, only as the code block for the top of a section-->{{GlobalMark/visible}}
I am not sure what this is telling me. IMO it is too ambiguous. As a wiki editor I would need to study the template to have any clue as to what it might be saying. I propose we clarify it and update the pages. Hopefully we can use our bot to do so.

PesachZ wrote:The code comment you are seeing is not telling you to do anything. it is a byproduct of the implementation of {{GlobalMark}} and the fact that is employed using substitution which includes the wiki comments. This comment explains the operation of the template. I guess we should remove it so it isn't pulled into pages.
Yes please.

I second the call to add Road_Type to the Global List, including adding some more detail.

Revisiting the topic, as there has been a request for a "legend" for the new roads layer, and this seems the appropriate place. I've added some photo legends to the WME Release Thread, but I believe this deserves some wiki attention.

I also agree that it should be US only.

robindlc wrote:I found in this page https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Map_Editing_ ... de#U-Turns a section about U-turns which in my opinion is not accurate or does not apply to all countryes:
NOTE: As of November 2014, it is OK but not necessary to allow the U-turn arrow where appropriate. At this time, Waze completely ignores the U-turn arrow in routing. At some time in the future, Waze might become capable of using the U-turn arrow. This advice replaces the advice from June 2014, which was to disable all U-turn arrows. As of November 2014, it is no longer necessary to disable u-turn arrows because Waze ignores them.
If you observe Waze using a u-turn arrow in routing for any reason, please notify regional or global champs immediately.
Fortunately, the lack of U-turn support can be mitigated with a workaround. User demand for U-turns usually concentrates on divided highways where drivers must make a U-turn to reach a destination on the other side of the road. If such a highway is already divided in Waze, a U-turn may be supported via a double-turn at a box junction or a hard turn at a bowtie junction. If such a highway is not divided in Waze and U-turn capability is demanded, a short section of the road near the intersection may be divided and a bowtie junction, or partial bowtie junction, inserted with the hard turn enabled. This approach effectively allows U-turn voice guidance using ordinary turn instructions. The need to support U-turns is one of the factors involved in deciding when and when not to divide a road in Waze.
As far as I know, U-turns are currently in productive with no problem (except for countries which decided not to use such feature)
There is already a thread dedicated to updating that section. This thread is dedicated to discussion IF a specific page should, should not be included in the Global wiki. I will look up the other thread regarding that uturn section for you.

Edit: the discussion about this uturn section starts here, and has not yet been implemented. Please post there to support the changes.

It is not *used* to have a discussion, but since it the defacto place for discussions in other wikis, it is commonly SOP to put a link there pointing to the direct thread for discussion since many editors will look there first.
