DwarfLord wrote:The Global Places wiki article currently encourages interior photographs, including restaurant menus, interior décor, and so forth. At least, it encourages them in one section, and does not strongly discourage them anywhere else.

My understanding is that the global Waze community expects all photographs to be of the outside. This is because Waze offers a photograph when navigating to a Place, and inside photographs do not help.

So, I would like to offer new wiki language to clarify that inside photographs are not acceptable.

Before I put any work into it, I would like to check with the international community. Are there countries where inside photographs are acceptable and encouraged?

I brought this up a month ago in the [Wazeopedia] Places thread but have received only one response, from a US editor. As this is a global page it is critical to have global feedback before continuing.

This obviously is not the right thread for the discussion so I will reply to your original post.

Hi Adris30,

I see what you mean, but this thread is for the discussion if if a certain page should be considered global, not about updates to global pages. I will bring this issue up with the wiki masters to get the flags updated.

The editor TserBK (Singapore Area Manager) just added those two countries and the links to the images, but did not add the images themselves.

They were also not added to the left panel.

EDIT: The flags have been updated and the countries added to the sidebar as well.

I noticed that on the US Wiki a flow chart is being displayed to apply Detour's prevention or not. However in the Global Wiki this flowchart does not exist.

With Flow Chart (Regional USA) https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/De ... Mechanisms

No Flowchart (Global)
https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/Global ... Mechanisms

I ask: Is the rule that is set in the Flowchart Global? If it is global, why not on the Global Wiki and if it can be copied, translated and posted on the Regional Wiki?

Although the actual mechanism is global, the same interpretation of how the mechanism works, and how it should be explained is different amongst different communities. There has not been global consensus in the past to include that style flowchart in the global wiki.

I fully agree on making this US-only.

Can we at least keep some global recommendations for mapping, with caveats for Local Guidelines? Perhaps as a hidden page that would only be used by local Wiki authors, and not generally searchable?

Difficult, I think. Dutch guidelines are not based upon this page for example.

We can make guidelines, but that's it.
Nobody has to comply to these rules.

Also, I think it's very difficult to make everyone agree.
For example, the '3 principles' are totaly not important for the netherlands.

I would create a new one, but maybe we have to start a topic for that.

So we are approaching 3.5 years since the top listed item was done? I also note the irony of the reliability and speed during this period of receiving error messages when trying to sign in..... :?

Hi,

Your best bet is to go to the country for where you live (or a local forum within that country forum). The message you just entered is very out of place. You have inserted your request into the middle of a completely different topic.

When you go there, please start a new topic, and do not reply to an existing one. Make sure you identify where you are located (country, province/state if applicable, city, street name).

You can find your country forum somewhere in here: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=19

I found in this page https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Map_Editing_Quick-start_Guide#U-Turns a section about U-turns which in my opinion is not accurate or does not apply to all countryes:

NOTE: As of November 2014, it is OK but not necessary to allow the U-turn arrow where appropriate. At this time, Waze completely ignores the U-turn arrow in routing. At some time in the future, Waze might become capable of using the U-turn arrow. This advice replaces the advice from June 2014, which was to disable all U-turn arrows. As of November 2014, it is no longer necessary to disable u-turn arrows because Waze ignores them.
If you observe Waze using a u-turn arrow in routing for any reason, please notify regional or global champs immediately.
Fortunately, the lack of U-turn support can be mitigated with a workaround. User demand for U-turns usually concentrates on divided highways where drivers must make a U-turn to reach a destination on the other side of the road. If such a highway is already divided in Waze, a U-turn may be supported via a double-turn at a box junction or a hard turn at a bowtie junction. If such a highway is not divided in Waze and U-turn capability is demanded, a short section of the road near the intersection may be divided and a bowtie junction, or partial bowtie junction, inserted with the hard turn enabled. This approach effectively allows U-turn voice guidance using ordinary turn instructions. The need to support U-turns is one of the factors involved in deciding when and when not to divide a road in Waze.

As far as I know, U-turns are currently in productive with no problem (except for countries which decided not to use such feature)
