You have to wait for the map to update for the change to take effect on average about 2 days

I know Behnam and he knows by now, he asked that question back in September 2016, please avoid responding to questions which are over 6 months old.
Sorry but it was bottom of the page and i thought it was bottom of the thread.

+1 these are appearing throughout the UK as the preferred method of control.

Totally agree. I found your request after composing this:

Thank you for adding the speed limit warning feature. Could you please consider a new feture: Average Speed Camera Dynamic Speed Limit warning. Average speed cameras have become very popular in the UK. A camera reads your licence plate at the start and another reads it on exit from the zone. Software calculates your average speed between these points and issues fines to speeders. I would like to see a dynamic limit warning calculated from my speed throughout the zone. For example, if I enter the zone at a speed higher than the average speed limit, then I would need to know my dynamically calculated limit to be below the average limit before exiting the zone at the next camera. Conversely, this would also provide a higher value than the average for drivers who are held up in slow traffic entering the zone. They can take advantage of the higher than average dynamically calculated limit to get to the next camera. NB often there are more than two cameras along a stretch of road (I've seen 4 or 5 in a row along a long stretch of road), so the assumption has to be made that the average is calculated between each one.

Alternatively, if you could simply display my current average speed whilst driving in each average speed camera zone (with the red warning if it's too high), then I could decide for myself. Should you consider this too confusing with the actual shown speed, perhaps a numerical indicator of how much above or below the average speed would help. I understand it is a difficult indicator to incorporate but I would find it incredibly helpful.

It is about time Waze did something for 'average speed zones' because they have been around long enough and are now common in some countries like the UK and I have seen the above suggestion working on other sat nav systems.
Helping Wazers to avoid speeding penalties must surely be one of it's main purposes.

There might also be interest in a routing option to avoid routes with high speed camera coverage, I would certainly use that as a feature as I find cameras a dangerous distraction from driving.

I wonder if there's scope for dealing with all the different types of UK speed camera more specifically? I can think of three different kinds:

- fixed cameras, for which the existing message in Waze is suitable (although it shouldn't be necessary, because there are also warning signs, and the cameras themselves are very visible!)

- average speed cameras, for which the current message becomes an irritation, since the actual position of each camera is immaterial. If there are to be alerts, it would be better to have one at the beginning and one at the end of the average speed enforcement.

- cameras on managed- and smart-motorways. These enforce red-ring speed limits when they are in place, but they are not operative when the NSL is in force. It's hard to see how Waze could know that a lower speed limit was in operation, although I suppose it might infer that one was from the speed at which users were driving.

I'll leave it to the experts to think of what might be possible.

Thank you!

A further bump for this thread, to which I contributed before Waze's average speed camera zone warning began.

We've not got a situation, especially through long stretches of roadworks, where the app notifies me that I'm entering an average speed enforcement zone, but then also tells me where each of the cameras is! Since they're measuring my average speed, their position on the road is irrelevant, and the announcements are a distraction and an annoyance.

We're getting more and more of these camera's in Belgium.
I think they should also get a new indication on the map because now it uses the same icon as mobile police checks. Which is a totally different thing.

Average speed cameras

Postby Osprey06 » Sat Aug 09, 2014 2:07 pm

I found mention of average speed cameras in a few request lists, but wanted to make a thread to make sure it gets some visibility.

Average ('point to point') speed cameras are becoming more common in my area. At the moment, some of them are marked as fixed speed cameras (start and/or end position), which is something, but I can't help feeling there could be so much more.

The idea that I'd like to float is the following:
    1. Users could identify the start, finish and average speed of the relevant zones via the app, with fine tuning in WME per the current fixed speed camera procedure.
    2. Once the zones are known and locked down, Waze would warn drivers of the upcoming areas as it would a regular fixed camera.
    3. I expect Waze would be able to relatively easily calculate the Wazer's average speed for the zone (as they already do for calculating navigation times?).
    4. Once this is known, Waze calculate how the Wazer is tracking with respect to the average speed over the zone and display if they should take action to avoid an infringement. E.g., if the Wazer has been exceeding the posted limit by 10% for the first half of the zone, Waze should be able to display the average speed that the Wazer would need meet over the second half of the zone in order to correct this (i.e. how much they would need to slow down by) and the Wazer could gradually and safely reduce speed until the two numbers (current average speed and required future average speed) meet.

Obviously real-world examples would be more complex that this, but in my view it would help take one more thing off the drivers mind. Anyway, I'm sure it's more complex in reality than it is in my head, but I would love to see this as a feature!

Would be ideal and along with the eventual implementation of speed limits, would top off an excellent navigational application.
Right now when travelling in areas of average cameras, I use a rival paid for navigation app as this displays my average speed which it records from the start to the end of average camera zones (and admittedly, it's a lot better at re-routing around traffic).
