Shielding state highways
[EDITED POST]
It now appears that pairing both the common name and the route number in the primary naming field will allow the display of highway shields, so there's no need to choose one over another. I'm still interested in local feedback on how this would sound/look before we decide where to make the change on state highways. Waze may make this display feature active "soon."
BUT we may need to consider possible search impact in areas where the highway name is part of a lot of addresses. I think a search would then pull the Google result and route appropriately, and perhaps including the common name as an alt would resolve the search issue. Interested in any thoughts here.
The stretches of highway without many house numbers attached are relatively common on the neighbor islands, but even on Oahu, there are some. For starters, I don't think any location has a Kahekili Hwy address, though I could be wrong. Parts of Kalanianaole Hwy, on the Ka Iwi Coast side, though not so much the East Honolulu stretch where there are houses right on the highway.
For example, I don't see any HNs here:
https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lo ... 2,62649522
The proposed naming syntax in the primary field would be:
Named Hwy / SR-XX
I'll doublecheck with other sources for the question on the routing issue, too.
