Ok, that half-joking comment was because the editors see system notifications on the map if Waze notices a large number of people ignoring the route it suggests in one location, so we can see if there is a map problem (turn restricted, road closed or disconnected, etc.) that is causing it. But you aren't "breaking" anything in the map data by using Waze the way you are.

I for one like the alerts the way they are done, because I generally know the routes I'm driving so leave the sound on alert only, but want to be alerted if Waze suggests an alternative because of traffic or some other incident.

B_Carp wrote: I agree with you here. I do the same. But I don't think that sound is the way to do it. If there's an alternative route, then the sound comes after we've already deviated from the suggested path, so doesn't fulfil the goal of alerting us to an alternative route. It's really just an annoying sound.
We're not describing the same scenario. I'm driving the Waze suggested route, not deviating from it. The alert tells me that route has now changed.

My preference is to leave it as-is.

And CarPlay. Waze really needs CarPlay.

If you go to Settings->General and turn off "Location Reporting", does that make it stop?

To echo what others have said about the road name at the bottom of the screen, it seems like common abbreviations (Dr, St, Ln, etc.) could be dropped first before cutting out the middle of the road name.

I did prefer the way it used to be in an older version, where you could directly tap on a button to SMS/email and eta. The new workflow adds too many taps for anyone not also using the app.

Apparently this didn't actually work on the back end like we thought it did, which is why it was removed for the time being.

So your saying you'll switch from one app that doesn't support CarPlay to another app that doesn't support CarPlay? [emoji52]

I'm sorry your setup doesn't work like it used to, but I expect Waze is more focused on making sure the things the do claim to support work like they are supposed to.

I see no reason for a GPS/satnav app to know where I am even when the app is not running.

I find this intrusive and taxing in terms of battery life.

IF this isn't fixed I will be removing the app.
Location services are used to provide departure alerts of when to leave for events on your calendar.
