Judging by my editable area, it looks like someone used a light-pen to draw on a map of North America (zoomed much farther out than Papyrus/Cartouche is capable of), using a mile-wide circular "point", to encompass map problems that were outside my normal area (e.g., from here southward). So, I would guess that the area highlighted previously would be the result of moving the pen slightly at the beginning or end of drawing the line.
