Feature Request: Auto Share Arrival Time

Post by
I recently switched from a Blackberry to the iPhone, and with that switched back to using Waze.

I had been using Blackberry Traffic, an app from RIM that quite simply graphs your route to and from work every day. One killer feature for me was that it sends my wife a notification of when I'll be home. Love that, use it every day.

I'd like to see this added to Waze. For each destination in my favourites, define an email address to notify when I'm on my way. With no more than one tap I should be able to let them know when I'll be there and it should notify them again if the arrival time changes significantly.

After about 5 minutes of driving, the sharing of ETA is useless unless you re-start your navigation. The ETA continues to grow as you drive. Been reported like dozens of times... :x

Guess I'm lucky, unless something happens along my routes (~30 minute drives) the ETA at the start is +/- 1 minute of when I arrive. If some sort of accident or other event happens while enroute it of course will be wrong.
I think I wasn't clear. If you go to share your ETA via text/email after driving for a few minutes, the ETA put into the message gets more and more inaccurate as you drive.

I will give it a try again tomorrow. Perhaps it's been fixed and I didn't notice. I forgot what platform you're on?

I'll test again today, but my experience to now has been as reported here and here and as recent as the 3.1.0.997 beta here.

It is definitely still broken on iOS still. Months and a few versions after first being reported.

Here's what iOS has experienced with the "Share Dest" feature since day 1. The first ETA in the text/email is correct and spot on with the actual ETA as long as you send it prior to driving. The first ETA is 12:04.

The following images show the progression of driving and how far off the ETA gets after less than 2 hours of driving. I cannot say for sure, but it looks like the ETA is the message is always the time from now and adding in the original estimated duration of driving. Either way, this feature is near useless on iOS.

I agree with you, i used that app for the same reason and miss that feature.
This would be an amazing improve I would like to see also.
A Cell phone text to be send automatically or to be prompted, so the waze user can choose or not to text his destination contact.
With most recent version text/email on ETA can be sent, but it just takes to much steps.
An option to have it automatically would be superb.
And it can't be hard to implement something like that :-D

It sorta exists in two forms. If you connect Waze with a Twitter account Waze can be set to auto-tweet your destination (city only or full address) along with ETA.

The current iPhone (beta?) client also has a destination sharing feature via SMS (and email?) that may also report ETA. Since I don't have an iPhone I've not paid too much attention to the iPhone client threads.
