acronym TTS

Post by invented
The acronym "QEW" is getting pronounced "Cue" by TTS; I wanted to replace it with "Q.E.W.". Does anybody have any experience with similar situations, and will this get pronounced like it should?

Yes there is plenty of experience with this situation. For now your best option may be to spell out "Queen Elizabeth Way" if you have not found an abbreviation for the acronym "QEW" that sounds correct, or just hang tight.

There are several forum threads here that deal with the issue of TTS results, including one where we are building a master list of all the abbreviations (including acronyms) that we would like to test and eventually suggest to be added, changed, or removed from the TTS engine. Since I maintain the list, I'll be sure to add "QEW", "Q E W" and "Q.E.W." for testing. And you are correct, "Q.E.W." should be the preferred choice.

FYI, the Waze TTS is actually a product of Nuance, and the voices we hear are Samantha or Tom. In your client device, look in "About" for the credits to Nuance for both TTS and voice recognition.

It has been discussed here:
http://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... breviation

Unfortunately, QEW is one of those many abbreviations that do not work as we would like.

The only way to get it to sound right would be spell it Q 'e' 'w', since the letters E and W would otherwise be pronounced as "east" and "west".

We are still working with Waze to address this issue TTS and letters.

We may also be able to ask that the combination QEW be pronounced Queen Elizabeth Highway in the future.

Does anyone have any idea how long the QEW is? It may help when we ask them for the exception rule!

Hagay.
We can't put them into WME yet. We can only submit them to Waze. Eventually we may have the ability within WME to edit how things are pronounced. However it is NOT something they have promised, as it may involve software that is not under their control.

asterix06's post was not in reference to the North American server. For North America we have a very large list of abbreviations that we are testing to learn the TTS results. (See the first post in this topic.)

At their request we have submitted only a few suggestions to Waze at this time, to see how they can be addressed. Once those are resolved, we will be presenting them with additional requests to process.

Some are simple specific exceptions, whereas others are more complicated and are more global.

Not yet, but hopefully soon.

Once we can, we will probably list them here:
