[SUPPORT] Routing doesn't consider Day of Week

Post by islupepa
Waze doesn't seem to consider time of day/night when calculating ETAs.
It should take less time to get to your destination when driving off peak hours than during rush hours.
At least if you drive in a city like São Paulo, with its 19 millions inhabitants.
I have an example where it shows that something is strange with the calculated ETAs. I have chosen to show the same route at different time of day/night to show my point.
The route goes from the airport straight into the "heart" of São Paulo.

It's really unrealistic that it should take the same time driving this route during off peak hours and during rush hours!!

Are you getting the same results on the client?
Unfortunately I get the same ETAs on the client!!
The route can change if there's any black, red or yellow marked traffic jam, but if there's not it will allways be the same route and the same ETAs. But from the description of Waze, it will know the average speed on every intersection at every time point of the day. We can see from the screenshots of this route that it's not working as intended!

Do you mean that Waze is not supposed to work like Tomtom's IQ route? It will calculate with the average speeds any hour of the day? This meens that Waze will overestimate the ETA during night and underestimate during rush hour!?

Does it work for you?

I guess that my post has been read by Waze because something different is happening with the ETAs.
Right now I was verifying some routes and I saw that I could get much different ETAs within the same minute.
So back to the route I posted here.... Yes I could see the same behavior here.

I did this a couple of times within the same minute and I could see these two results alternating.

You can try yourself by clicking this permalink...http://world.waze.com/livemap/?zoom=6&l ... g=61767782

Update a couple of times with the key F5 and you will see it alternating.

No color coded traffic jam on the route!!!

Agree! I think that consistency is better than inconsistency in the search for improvements!
Hopefully, they are implementing improvements on the routing servers and not all of the routing servers have got the fix yet. Therefor the inconsistency! Else the problem will get even more difficult to track down!

Yesterday, I really thought that they had fixed this issue.
After the problem with the international routing servers (see http://status.waze.com/routing-not-work ... ternationa), I got ETAs that were significantly lower (36 minutes compared to 43 minutes). Since it was Sunday and the ETA seemed reasonable, I thought that the problem was solved and that the ETAs were going to be higher again on Monday morning during rush hour.
I noticed this morning, that this was not the case. I got the same ETAs as yesterday.
I noticed, however, that the map had been updated yesterday and I think that this is the reason for the lower ETAs. I just can't understand how it suddenly can cut the ETA with 7 minutes. It's not like ther are only a few people driving on these roads and that the average speed suddenly gets better since the average is based on a couple of more speed data!

guri211 wrote:I've had the same problem - static ETAs for all routes 24 hours a day. But it looks much better today morning.

EDIT: It is different, not better.
Agree! The routes are not so static anymore, but if you happen to get the same route again, you'll get the same ETA!!
