Waze Mobile App searches for "post office" will find Waze places only if they have the Post Office category or have a Google link to a Post Office. Thus, it is important we limit the amount of places we add the Post Office category to.
This paragraph has problems. The app can most certainly find post offices without the PO category, in instant results. The problem is, when the search term "post office" is pushed to a full search, the app will then conduct a "category search" and return any Waze place which has the category, "POST OFFICE" assigned. Since the vast majority of people searching for a post office are, in fact, looking for a USPS facility, not (for instance) a shipping store, and the latter tend to clog results, we must restrict the usage of the POST OFFICE category to only genuine USPS retail facilities.

p.s. why are Mobile and App capitalized?
The refinement phase hasn’t taken place yet. Grammatical checks still need to be performed. I welcome any and all suggestions on rewriting of a paragraph to make it more accurate, while still leaving it understandable to lower rank users.

The things you pointed out are not part of this thread and the current PNH vote. You pointed out issues with the paragraph about categorization, which has already been published, as well as typographical errors in capitalization which can be easily fixed. I’ll make those changes as you suggested. Thank you for catching them.

This thread and the vote ongoing is about the naming convention only. Other threads exist for the category as well as area vs point.

(Personally, I keep thinking wildlife management area. )
You are spot on. That is exactly why I capitalized Mobile App. It’s not a proper name, so theoretically shouldn’t be capitalized. But that’s where it came from.

The PNH mod team has concluded their vote and it has passed! The naming structure has been approved by the PNH mod team! Now this moves on to you all, the editing community as a whole, for consensus. I have refined the page to include small clarifications of the “search results” (even tho this thread is about naming only). I propose the following to be instated for Post Office Naming in the USA, with full support from the PNH mods:

https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Us ... ost_Office

Thank you everyone for your assistance in this!

Note: this is a call for wordsmithing and formatting. As far as the naming, that isn’t going to change as the PNH mod team has spoken and it is how it is going to stay. :)

Military Bases - Wazeopedia wrote:Naming for Commercial Places
Add (*Post Name* access only) behind commonly named places, (i.e. Food/Chain, Post Office, Bank, Golf Course, etc), so that people without base access are warned when they do a search; Example: "GNC (Tinker AFB access only)".
We have not even begun do discuss naming of Post Offices on military bases. However, it has been a standing guidance to add the (*Post Name* access only) to the name of the place.

That being said, can you give an example of the post office station name and the post name? If they are the same, then they are redundant and I would lean towards altering the name to “Post Office - Base/Installation Name access only” as the base and USPS station name are the same.

Michelle-S wrote:For the most part, I really like all the work that has gone in to the Post Office Guidance. After giving several Post Offices some hard research, I have one refinement to suggest to the Post Office Wazo:
Some Zip Codes contain more than one full-service USPS Office (not including CPO, VPO or Kisoks). I think the guidance should allow for the "- [Station]" to be added to the alternate names of USPS and the Zip code
Such as:
USPS - HRCOE
USPS - Fort Knox
40121 - HRCOE
40121 - Fort Knox

I'm posting the rest of my comments to the Military Forum
The purpose of the zip code only alt name is to satisfy the search by zip code only... while rare, it could still happen. However, IIRC, the primary name would still be displayed as the result instead of the alt name.

FzNk wrote:I think someone searching for a post office by zip code alone is far too vague of a search to justify a need to add it as an alt. name. I also don't see any change in search with the Zip and/or Zip - Station included as alts. Waze just thinks I'm searching for a house number or returns what I presume is a Google result for the center of the zip's area.
The ZIP as an alt was debated heavily and decided to add. The reason is for those that search by ZIP, as you tried to do. Some people, usually in certain areas, actually want to find a Post Office for a particular ZIP code. Unfortunately, searching isn’t quite fine tuned in that the alt name searching in quick results (and even when pushed to full search) doesn’t work. Having the ZIP as an alt will work in the future if / when searching is fixed. Having it as an alt doesn’t hurt anything.

I’m not seeing any suggestions for formatting changes, wordsmithing or clarifications. This is the final call before I consider it a consensus and will push it to the USA WoP.

APettyJ wrote:That I realize. However, as guidance is currently written there is no reason this listing would be updated, since it is not the primary name. It would be nice if "USPS" by itself is not an accepted result, but should always be paired with the zip.
Most of your search results are from Google, and those that aren't are showing primary names, rather than alt names, because that's how search works. When you run WMEPH on Boulevard Station, for example, it tells you to update the name.
Thanks for pointing that out Kartografer.

As stated, most your results are from Google, not Waze. Instant search does not work correctly. It doesn’t currently search alt names as it should. So searching for USPS, or a zip code, won’t necessarily return the desired results in an instant search. However, if you push the search to a full search, you’ll get back more results with a mix of alt names. But, if an alt name is matched, only the Primary name is going to be displayed. This is only for Waze POI’s, either with linked Google or not. Then you’ll have Google results that don’t have a Waze linked POI. We have zero control over those, unless creating a Waze PoI and linking to the Google Place is warranted.

This is fundamental for how searches work right now. It’s a semi broken / semi working feature.
