Is this a new issue for you? Or did previous version of the client do it?
Yes I agree. I'm trying to map out roads in a previous empty 60 mile radius. Its impossible! Once I drive out of cell/mobile range, Waze stops recording my journey. The connection only drops for a few miles and then re-connects, but this totally annoys Waze and it will not reconnect!
Ive downloaded the beta version and will try it tomorrow if I'm out and about.

I would second this. I did a lot of coast range driving this weekend. A lot off the major routes so had little to no cell coverage for long periods.
I would love to have maybe an option off the advanced menu for buffer status... how much used (if there is a limit) and when in cell coverage again, how much is waiting to be uploaded.

Waze has never told us how long it can cache data for. In theory for the iPhone and Android you are only limited by application storage limits. But I suspect that it is much lower (maybe a hold over from earlier supported devices).
Waze has only told us that it is designed to handle "short" outages.

This is a long standing issue. Waze has not handled data outages well.
I understand that Waze wants the data to be relevant for the time frame, but the client and server should be able to agree that the data being sent is "aged". And just use it for route analysis, and not real time traffic data. It should even attempt to hold this data over restarts.
That way roads in non cell range can get auto direction, turn restriction updating and also average speeds adjusted appropriately.

Yeah, this also happens when accepting a voice call. It has been happening since 3.0.1, where they made some improvements to the connection handling code.

me) in 3.0.1. (I was able to install an old 3.0.0 to make sure the
problem doesn't happen there).
What happens?
- I'm navigating/driving using Waze
- I accept a phonecall while I'm on 3G (which I usually am)
- 3G signals drops, iPhone switches to 2G
- Waze loses network (2G can't do data and voice at the same time ofc)
- After completing the conversation, the 3.0.1 version is unable to
restore the connection to the Waze servers (on either 2G/3G or even
when connected to WiFi). 3.0.0 works fine.

This looks like something completely different - you lost the GPS signal, not the data signal.Autourdupc wrote:I have the same with last version of Waze...

Waze used to handle this a lot better. I live in an area that is really spotty in cell coverage and usually lose ~10 miles a day when I go the route of the highway.
Today I went to the post office and lost connection 2.5 miles away from my house. The post office is 6 miles away. I also decided to go off my normal route and drove ~5 miles worth of cookies which since I was off network, never registered. The data did reconnect in just about the same point as the disconnect, and that portion was recorded. So 17 miles of driving and only 5 miles recorded in two segments. I remember previous versions as long as you started the journey on network or wifi all of it got recorded.
