Needs higher level to update wrong gated community entrance

Post by mast_mast
I live in a community which is a small island. There are 2 gated entrances, one is for Residents ONLY, and the other is for residents and guests.

Waze is constantly taking friends and Uber drivers to the Resident's ONLY entrance, please help.!

The Island is called Normandy Isles, Miami Beach, FL, 33141
the incorrect route is thru Bay Dr. - this one is GATED for residents only - no access.

The CORRECTroute is thru Biarritz Dr.....

Are the gates on Bay a recent addition? If so, to address XKSpeed's question, exactly where are they? On Biarritz, they appear to be for both residents and guests. https://www.google.com/maps/@25.8534506 ... 312!8i6656

Second, saying it is a dead end would prevent routing for residents, so in the end, as ramblinwreck_81 noted, there is not a "resident-only" option. It is up to the residents to tell guests and Uber/Lyft drivers which entrance to take.

mast_mast, thanks for sending the street view location. Now that we see where the private-access gate is, we can run routing simulations.

After trying various simulations, including from the public side of the N. Shore Dr gate to the private side of the gate (only 23 feet apart), Waze still routes all the way around to Biarritz Dr; it doesn't try to route through the private gate because it is set, correctly, as a private road. In short, the problem you identified cannot be duplicated, but even if it were, as per driving79's comments, consistent with long-standing policies no changes are needed.

With that said, we map for the resident as we are unable to differentiate between if you are a resident or visitor. Imagine how upset every single time a resident would be routing home, to be routed incorrectly. There are many gated neighborhoods that this can have a huge impact how you are routed, and make the ETA every single time incorrect. We get many more complaints impacting someone who gets an incorrect route daily (or more than daily) than someone who is routing there every once in a while. We had to make a decision a long time ago, until there is a better function given to us, and resident is who we map for with gated neighborhoods. Thanks.
I JUST asked this question. Thank you for making it so clear! Makes my job easier.

Thank you for your prompt reply. If Waze doesn't have a way to distinguish between private roads... maybe an idea would be to consider Bay Dr gate as the end of the road. Everyone who lives in the island knows about both entrances, by saying it is a dead-end it will help those relying on Waze to navigate around our area.

Thank you "Banished" for your input, although in my humble opinion it is better to have Bay Dr as a dead-end. You've mentioned "saying it is a dead end would prevent routing for residents",,, but residents don't need to use routing to get home ;-))) It would benefit way more people to direct them to the public entrance.....

Thanks for your report. Unfortunately, waze cannot distinguish between residents and guests. We could use your help however in making sure the gates are in place correctly in that neighborhood. I see a couple of waze map gates but none on Biarritz. If you'd like to join us in the Southeast discord channel, we can use your expertise to ensure the community is correctly mapped.

I know this is an older post but you could tell your guests to input the address of the gate (if available) and then continue the drive to the residence.

Could you please provide some addresses for the neighborhood? I'm unable to find any gates at that location in our imagery.

I did correct a section of Bay Dr that was improperly marked as a two-way road.
