Actually, putting it in first and pressing the pedal on the right will cause either a stall, or death of that old dear on the zebra crossing ;-)
I know how to drive a stick shift (depress clutch, select gear, ease off clutch while depressing gas pedal)... Wait, are your pedals backwards over there too?? Normal cars go Clutch, Brake, Gas (left to right).

Also, WTH is a "Zebra Crossing"? The old lady should be in the "Crosswalk" so she doesn't get a ticket for jaywalking...

roundabouts are called traffic circles
We can't make a Connecticut specific translation, although, what are they called around the US? Which is the most popular? I know "roundabout" is a British term, maybe it doesn't fit the US English translation.

It was more of a theoretical set of questions than anything... Didn't think it would get this type of response...

But yes, in the up here in the northeast, they are mostly called a "traffic circle" or a "rotary" by the people, traffic engineers may call them "roundabouts" based on their design, but normal people don't care.
