Unlock/edit request: Ware, UK

Post by matty890
Would someone unlock/fix the following link please, it is a segment that is still set as major highway and it should be minor highway like the rest of the road.

I can unlock it as a level 4 UK wide editor. Done, deleted extra nodes and relocked. Please check.

Personally I don't mind and try not to lock much for that reason. However some of the other editors may feel more strongly.

As there's no convention, I'd say just leave it as it is for now then.
I think we were talking about setting a certain minimum level lock on motorways but I'm not sure what happened to that idea.

There's no real "convention" per se at the moment. It used to be that we locked all segments as it prevented the server automatically adjusting geometry, directionality and allowed turns. Nowadays that lock is no longer required and they've recycled the lock field.

As a rough guide I now lock all motorways and junctions, all trunk roads and their junctions and I also tend to lock 1 way roads where there's a chance another editor might override them. In addition I would tend to lock anything where I have edited and know the current layout does not match the aerial.

As I said though there's no strict convention at the moment.

This is a level 6 lock. You'll need to contact the area manager or support to unlock it.

Ok, thanks, I did not realise it would need that level to unlock.

Yes that looks fine thanks :-) I notice though that some of the nearby segments would be editable by me (and/or deletable). Not sure if that is right or not but at the moment they look ok anyway.

Thanks again

Some of the segments are locked by one of us mere mortal editors rather than one of the super editors such as your good self :D
Those segments can be unlocked or edited by me whereas others locked by someone at a higher editing status don't give me any access.

While it's not consistent right now, I don't think that's a big problem, although it does mean the likes of me can "fix" or "break" things without an update request. Is there a general convention for this sort of thing? I'm perfectly happy to go along with that if there is :)
