Newbie: I fear I messed up

Post by kb0gt
This morning I decided to do my first update, to correct a speed limit. It was super easy to update. So, I hit save. Then I realized that there was a number (22, I think) on the save button when I hit it. Now, I'm worried that there were a bunch of other "updates" that may have been me playing in the past. Did I just save a bunch of updates? ... ones that I don't know what they were? Is there some way to go back and see the updates that I've submitted?

A stir would have been caused if you had actually made those 20 some changes and then kept going without saying anything. We'd rather you ask for help and not have needed it, then to have needed help and not asked. Also, like Tin said, you have to really try to break anything at your level.

Did you by any chance modify the speed using the little arrows in the speed box? ie, going up or down instead of correcting the number by typing it? That's an example of a possible "22 edits" shown in the save button, but it's actually one single edit: "change speed from x to y"

And according to your Editor Profile, it looks like you only made one edit.

Here is the PL for the only edit you made, which was changing the SL from 30 to 20. You did not mess up.

I recommend you join the Plains Region (PLN) Discord Server to communicate with local editors that can assist you in learning how to make quality map edits.

Thanks, everyone. Yes, I did use the arrows to correct the speed limit. I did some more speed limit work today and watched my counter on the save counter change. Whew! I will stick with simple things like this until I have gone through the videos a second time and joined the group. Sorry to cause a stir.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

The number on the save button is not the number of edits you have done, it's the number of steps that can be rolled back with the undo button. WME will tell after the save how many objects were actually changed.

Thanks for checking again, when I did yesterday the public profile didn't contain the edit on the left yet so I couldn't check any PL to find out. I've moved this to the Minnesota forum now.

Thanks for moving this over, guys!

@kb0gt - welcome to Minnesota! I'm one of the State Managers here, and I'd be happy to help get you up to speed with your editing (pun totally intended!)

I'm also only seeing the speed update other editors noted. Fortunately, there are a number of checks in the Waze system that should prevent you from, say, accidentally deleting a segment of I-35 S as a brand new editor :P

Feel free to send me a forum PM or join us on Discord at the link above, and we'll gladly share some more local-specific info to help you make the most of your editing time. We don't have too many Rochester locals on board, and we definitely appreciate the help!

You haven't caused a stir at all! We're glad you reached out, and you've been doing great so far! This is much easier than when someone *actually* breaks things and then is impossible to reach - that is, by Waze standards, "the worst incorrect edit" ..

Hope to see you around the map more often - and you know how to find us in the meantime if you have any other questions :)

Could you specify in which country (state?) this edit was made?
