Desert Road closure / restrictions?

Anyone know why Desert Road has been marked with restrictions and is closed? Wave live map shows it has been closed for 49 years, which seems odd...

I don't have the level to fix it.

Saw it today myself.
It was closed by NZTA so I have asked for confirmation.
