Anyone working on guidance for Multiple Entry Points (MEPs)? Editing them has now gone live in production WME.

I think for places like malls, hospitals, etc. - set the point to where you'd drop someone off. For controlled access parking lots, the entrance off the street.

If the venue names their entrances, then it'd be "C Gate" or "Bldg A Entrance". In other cases the adjacent street such as "5th Ave Entrance" would be preferred to "North Entrance", which people seem to have a problem with directions. Perhaps venues such as malls with anchor tenants it might be appropriate to say "Macy's Entrance"

IIt all depends on the layout of the mall. The one I'm thinking of can just about only be accessed through the anchors, the hours are in sync, and if/when businesses close, we make adjustments. My rule of thumb would be how I'd describe the location to someone verbally - I'm at the Penney's door, or the Nordstrom door. The other entrances are garages - and one is literally named the JC Penney garage, so you bet that's the name we use.

I'm sure this is a case where the guidance may cover many situations, but will be subject to reasonable interpretation depending on the circumstance.

I agree. It makes perfect sense to map such places as AP when there is a need for greater visibility.

The Places wazeopedia has been evolving, and I have a suggestion regarding places that I would like to see differentiated from other similarly named places in the same vicinity. I've seen suggestions for a USA-wide "[Place] - [Location]" designation for a long time in many channels. This would make it easier in the Waze app for Wazers to quickly see the different places in a search query, so we can decide which specific location we want to go to.

This standard is mentioned in the Area-Point Combinations sub-section of Point wazeopedia: "Point Specific Name - Area General Name"
https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Pl ... ion_naming
I'd like to suggest that we think about making that change on a larger scale.
This way, Chain businesses could be labeled with "Business - Location".

Other newly published guidance that precludes my suggestion of a broad [Place] – [Location] standard includes:
- Parking Lot Area place naming: "Parking Lot - Business name"
https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Pl ... lot#Naming

- Hospitals / Urgent Care ER Alternate names of “ER - Hospital Name” and “Ambulance Entrance - Hospital Name”
https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Pl ... are#Naming

- Post Offices: Post Office - [Station]
https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Us ... ost_Office

I see Regions’ lists of Place Name Harmonization tables that show the Category listings for Business Chains. However, I think we should provide for the fact that those locations could be refined with a [Place] – [Location] standard. It’s not just chains of businesses or Post Offices that require location differentiation. I listed Public Library system branches as one example. The neat thing is that this type of naming standard is already ubiquitous.

Therefore, I'd like to be able to expand this use of hyphens for all types of places for their Primary Names, for example: "Library - Belle Isle branch" as opposed to "Library - Downtown OKC branch" or to Chain-business places and Education systems as well.

Our state also has Universities that host Extension branches throughout our Metro areas as well: OU has at least two campuses (OU and OU-HSC) and Oklahoma State University has five campuses statewide (OSU, OSU-OKC, OSU-Tulsa, etc.) https://news.okstate.edu/campuses. The University of Wisconsin has 26 campuses (13 colleges and 13 extensions) https://www.wisconsin.edu/campuses/. The University of Texas system has 14 Universities https://www.utsystem.edu/institutions (UT, UTD UT-Dallas, UTA UT-Arlington, etc.)
I see trends in the use of this [Place] – [Location] naming convention all over the country.

This would also mean that the Military Wazopedia would need to change its section for commercial places on posts to using a hyphen "Business - Ft **** access only", away from its current standard of using parentheses: "Business (Ft **** access only)"

Hi guys,
I have added some information to the page in my userspace.

You can see the differences here.

The updates I performed were to the FAQ and Duplicate Places sections. I also added a section for Merge Places.

Let me know your thoughts please.

Thanks a bunch for your input on this guys. I'm hoping we can slowly get some of this stuff updated.

At this point, I'm unsure what next updates are until we hear further information.

I am guessing that there was someone editing the page at the same time I was? I grabbed the latest version as of a couple days ago

Kartografer wrote:I don't know what document you're talking about. Your draft page has only been edited by you, and the US places page has not been edited yet this month.

As for the backend links at gas stations for price updates, Irad and Daliah both said that the merge feature was being developed to support them. I understand that they said this a year ago, but that was the explicit promise, so our guidance should conform to this until we get evidence to the contrary. It's not like something was left up in the air and we need to test or whatever. Besides, live updates of gas prices don't even happen in the US, so we really can't test. While it would be nice to get an answer from staff on whether merge still keeps those links, waiting for that answer should not hold up publication of this guidance. We should get this guidance into the wiki fast, since this is an important new feature.
I meant to say page instead of document. I guess I didn't fully realize until this discussion that some gas stations have backend links to update gas prices. I definitely agree that this should be published soon to help other editors. Gas station prices are almost always outdated from my experience and most people (in Michigan) just flag the place as inappropriate details when the price is wrong SMH.

As agreed, the updates have been published. I've noticed there are a number of other modifications to outdated images that are needed. Unsure at this time about actual page content though

My page

Overall looks good.

Three considerations,
For moving a point place, is it worth mentioning to move the stop point too (if added)? Otherwise the user is still brought to the same location as the stop point even though the PP was moved.
For the picture of the dashed lines showing the boundary of where the stop point can be moved, I think cropping the picture to get rid of the miscellaneous information on the left side and top would help declutter the picture.
For photos change from only review and delete to we can review photos and delete (or merge from another Waze place (AP or PP).

I added the part about moving the stop point.

The picture with the dashed line has been updated to be less cluttered.

Agreed with the wording for the place photos section and it's been updated now
