Yes, an underlying something did change, which I a) forgot that it would affect URO+ and b) never then noticed the problem myself

Umm, err, ahh...

OK, so it might not be custom markers (which I no longer think can be made to work neatly on the map comments layer given how different visually MCs are to URs and MPs), but I've finally added in some filtering options which will at least help with the process of identifying/ignoring custom tagged comments.

Um... I mean no disrespect here, but I'm kinda failing to see how that will be helpful when scanning around the map. Seeing an icon that shows a construction marker or note or whatever was what made that feature actually helpful (to me, anyway) when panning around. I'm not looking to filter them out, I want to be able to tell at a glance what kind of marker it is. Maybe I'm missing something here by what you mean by filtering options...?
I agree that it's not as neat a solution as the custom markers were for tagged URs, and it will require a bit more user intervention to drive the filtering options to achieve the desired results, but it does make finding tagged comments a hell of a lot easier than it was up until a couple of hours ago - remember that filtering can be used both to hide things that match the filter criteria, and also to hide things that don't...

e.g. if you wanted an easy way to find [NOTE] comments, you'd simply select the [NOTE] filter option AND the "invert operation" option.

I haven't entirely given up on the idea of providing some visual differentiation for tagged comments, it just isn't as straightforward as it was with URs where WME gave us that nice consistently shaped/sized native marker to use as a canvas.

Generating UR markers isn't difficult (backfilling does this already) and intercepting the click would also be relatively easy. The problem here is that these markers would reside on the UR layer rather than the comment layer, so their visibility would be controlled by all the native and third party options for displaying/hiding URs, and not the corresponding options for map comments...

And then there's the question of how to handle area MCs, because whilst it might be reasonable to simply plonk down a custom marker at the area centroid when viewing the map at a wide zoom level, once you start zooming in far enough such that the area comment now falls off the sides of the map viewport, there's the corresponding risk that the custom marker would also fall off the edge unless it's position was constantly recalculated on the fly to keep it visible regardless of where the area was in relation to the viewport.

I know this is something people really want to see implemented. Hell, it's something *I* really would like to see too - whilst map comments bring a bunch of obvious advantages compared with the use of tagged URs, the lack of a consistent native marker or indeed even any sort of native attempt to indicate comment ages or whether they've been commented on means that in some respects they are a bit of a backward step for the way we've become accustomed to using tagged URs.

But. I don't want to push out some half-baked godawful hack just to restore partial custom marking support to MCs. If I do it at all, I want it to work properly (i.e. for both point and area MCs) and I also want it to be implemented in a way which stands the least risk of being torn to shreds by a future WME update.

I'm aware that the latest WME release has broken place popups, I'll release a fix for this later today...

3.112 fixes place and difficult turn popups in the latest WME release, converts URLs to clickable links in place popups, uses the full URL text in place of "here" for all URL->clickable link conversions, and enables feed entry filtering by age.

Note: if age filtering doesn't seem to be working properly, please let me know which language you've selected in WME when sending in your bug report.

Thanks Iain. The clickify code currently only looks for one URL, which is why your space fix works the way it does. And the reason adding the space at least makes the first URL clickable is because it doesn't currently recognise a LF/CR as a URL terminating character... I'll see about improving this behaviour in the next update.

3.113 converts all (in theory) URLs found in the popup text into clickable links, includes segment names in the enhanced turn history details, and adds an option (Misc tab) to hide the segment vector layer when the roads layer is switched off.

3.114 is mostly a compatibility update for beta users, however in the process of working through all of the fixes required I did find a bug affecting production users as well, which would prevent popups appearing for objects highlighted at the very bottom of the map view.
