New! Nodes Closed feature

Post by
Hello everybody!

We have some exciting news for you!
We have the ‘Closure On Nodes’ feature activated in Beta.

Timeline -
The feature will be active in Beta for 5 days starting today, Feb 5th.
On Monday, Feb 10th the feature will be released in production unless we see major blockers.

How will this feature help?
Up until now, when closing a road stretch you had to pay attention to ensure that traffic wasn’t accidentally routed through the junction between the closed segments. To avoid this situation you had to close all the segments which lead to the junction as well. We believe the changes will make mapping Major Traffic Events and closures easier and more intuitive for both editors and partners.

How does the Closure on Nodes feature work?

1.Close two or more consecutive segments as usual
2. On the bottom of the closure screen, you will now also be able to see the Nodes Closed screen. The screen indicates whether the nodes are open or closed and allows you to change the state of the node by flipping the switch. When a node is closed, you’ll also see an indicator symbol on the map on the closed junction

Please note! When adding a closure for consecutive segments the default behavior will close all nodes with adjacent closed segments and open on the edges. This behavior is more intuitive as easier and will allow you to have a better overview of the closed nodes.

Some routing cases to be aware of:
#1 When closing 2 consecutive segments please pay attention that the entire node is closed for traffic now. Even navigating from between two open streets over this node will not be possible.

#2 If you close two-way segments in just one direction, you will not be able to close a node.

# 3 - When opening a closure on only one of the consecutive segments, the node will still remain closed on the adjacent segment. You will still see the closed nodes icon on the map and traffic through this node from any direction will not be possible.
The same thing would happen if you were to flip the switch on just one of the consecutive segments. So make sure to pay extra attention to that while editing the map.

The beta phase -
Please note that this will be open in Beta for only one week, so make sure to share with us your feedback, if you wish, once you tried it.
We won’t be able to extend the beta for it, as all closures which will be done in beta, will be affecting routing, but won't be projected into the production version of the WME.
Meaning edits in the production version will override the closures you’ll do in beta.
Therefore, to avoid these mistakes, during the beta time we will suggest you to closed access segments “old school” to be safe.

Last but not least, we have also created an amazing tutorial video for you. You can find it HERE!
We believe that it will be a great asset to share across the community or with partners you work with, to ensure the good use of the feature.
If you wish, we encourage you to add your local translation into this spreadsheet, we will add it as a translation to the video in our YouTube channel :)

Happy editing!
Hezi

I just started using WfC and had to Google what "closure nodes" were - it would be helpful if this had a little (i) next to it like the other fields, or were included in the documentation at https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/Global ... re_feature. The screenshots there are dated and it does not mention the closure node or HOV/Service Road Adjacent option and calls other fields by other names.

Looking forward to seeing this in action! It should help cut down on the work we've had to do previously to keep traffic from being routed across a closed street!

Great news, except, as soon as you click on the 'add closure' button you lose the A/B text, making it fun adding 1-way closures.

Barely 24 hours and there's already a local council announcement that a major intersection will be closed for traffic going straight and turning right for a few days.

Since the design is just normal 4-segment crossroads we can't do anything without involving MTU. This is one great example of the need of RTC on turns

Tested and works perfect, very clear graphic.
But if I close some consecutive segments with opened nodes, after refresh if if I select the some segments again to modify anything, the nodes changes to be closed.
How you tell is necesary pay extra attention.
Nice feature, Congrats

There was a setting for which a crossing two-way is not being closed with the new feature.
The issue occurred on two segments of the crossing road have different street names and when they were connected to the closed junction.
This particular closure existed there before.

Routing is denied coming from "Heinrich-Heine-Straße" as expected.
ROUTING IS NOT DENIED FROM "Rudolf-Scheffel-Straße".

I tested again the next day and it works now.

This happened even after creating the Closure again yesterday. The problem disappeared overnight.
