I like the suggested new wording for node, and propose one addition to that section, because I've seen the term "transition node" in use lately to describe creating a node in order to allow something feature of the road to change.

A [[dead-end node]] is a node that is connected to only one segment.
A [[transition node]] is a node that is connected to only two segments, and exists in order to allow the road to change name, city, speed limit, elevations, or another attribute.
