Being a map editor can sometimes be difficult because road segments are often set to higher editing levels than an editor can modify.

This can occur if a segment's level was manually set to a higher level to avoid damage to important or complicated segments or because the Waze system itself has automatically locked segments to a higher level because they are heavily used. This segment, for example, is set to Auto (4), which means that Waze has automatically locked it. The other numbers to the right are manual locks, set by Waze map editors.

If you want to work on something that is above your level, you can request temporary lowering of road-segment levels in this forum. Please follow the following steps so that we may efficiently process your requests:

UNLOCK REQUEST INSTRUCTIONS

The subject line of your message post should include:

• the original level of the segment;
• the level to which you wish it lowered; and
• the location and name of the segment.

For example: Level5 to L4 Unlock: British Columbia - Qualicum Beach (Hwy 4)

Your request should indicate if you are an area manager for your requested segment(s) and your editing rank, as well as how any re-locking of the segments should be handled.

Your request must include a permalink to the segments you want lowered. You can include multiple segments in one permalink.

To create a permalink:

• Select the segment(s) you are requesting to be unlocked in the Waze Map Editor. To choose multiple segments, use Cmd+Click (macOS), Ctrl+click (Windows), or multi-select mode.
• Click on the permalink icon in the top right corner on the map. It looks like a little chain, as shown in the following image.

You can then paste the permalink into your request.  Please provide a short explanation of why you are requesting the unlock. Please note that a higher level editor may choose to fix the problem themselves so higher value segments will remain protected at their level.

CONTACTING SENIOR EDITORS

If your thread has not been addressed within a few  days, try sending a private message or e-mail to one of the Canadian Country Managers (CMs). A list is available here: memberlist.php?mode=group&g=61

Just click on a name and you will get a page that will let you send a message or e-mail.

Please note that the notifications system may occasionally break, so CMs may not see your message for a while.  We encourage all new editors to join our Discord server for more reliable communication.

Thank you for your willingness to help make Waze maps even better, and for your patience in working through this process.
