Search doesn't find street

Post by OffMyAz
Hello I am very new to Waze and this is my first post. I have searched and found similiar problems but not this exact one, pardon me if it's been asked.

I can look on a map in the editor and manually locate a certain street, but when I search for it in the editor (or anywhere else) it is not found. My guess from looking at previous posts is that it has to do with search provided by Bing. But if this is true, what is the purpose of someone adding the road in the editor if Waze doesn't know it's there?

I`m not sure if I should be confused or if it's a real problem that can be corrected.

Thanks and so far besides this problem and a nasty sounding TTS, Waze is awesome!

I really really agree with your thought! I too tried months ago to ask Waze to solve this incredible problem, but I am still waiting...

Does bing find it?

When you search, have you looked at the other results from google, yelp, YP, four square?

The search relies on external search engines. The data in the Waze map is necessary to give you directions to get you from place to place.

Your problem is with Bing, not Waze. Send a request to get the street put onto the Bing maps.

That's what I meant when I said it can't be found (or anywhere else). No search engines find it. But, it is there in the editor. That's why I`m confused ... why Waze doesn't search it's own roads instead of other search engines. Seems pointless to make corrections?

So someone takes the time and effort to add the street in the editor, but then I cannot get directions to the place because it's not found in the app. Your answer, though correct, is exactly what confuses me. I can't wrap my head around the logic of it.

This might make some sense if I only needed that street as a means from point a to b, but what happens when this street is my final destination?

To me it only says Waze is far from being perfect even if it has "perfectly edited maps", albeit no worse than the search engines I guess. Add the search and only then it's as good as it's editors.

Thanks for responding, but my sincere inability to understand why Waze does not search within it's own socially corrected maps instead of Bing's, is definately a Waze problem. I`m sorry if my thoughts are not being communicated effectively.

Waze priding itself on being social but then not using the social information provided by it's users is strange to me.

Perhaps I innocently stumbled upon one of those deeply profound questions, a zen koan if you will, which is asked only to arose the higher mind but in the end has no clear answer. I`ll apologize for partaking in this wild thought experiment as it seems this has no logical answer and thus simply "is because it is and therefore is".

It uses Bing to search, that IS all, that IS the answer, I`ll sit down and stop being silly
