This means that:
- When editing, a segment has a "state" field to hold the county name as well as a "Street" field for the segment name and a "City" field and a "Country" field.
- All existing segments (as of yesterday) have been given a county (according to their location). These seem to be mostly correct, although segments that run along a county boundary might be a little random. Feel free to change any that aren't quite right.
- When you add a new segment, it should automatically be given the right county name, but if it's not quite right, then you can change the segment's county name. If the segment crosses a county boundary, then split it at the boundary and give it the right name on each side of the county boundary.
- City names no longer need to be unique across the country - just within their county. We've already named cities like "Blackrock (Cork)", "Newcastle (Dublin)", "Newcastle (Galway)" and "Newcastle (Tipperary)" to take the county name out of the city name.
- Searching for addresses should be much improved for end users, especially for country addresses, because the county name is now relevant and should be shown in search results. Townland names are often used in addresses in country areas, and it should now be possible to tell the difference between "Ballymore" in Tipperary and "Ballymore" in Mayo.
Happy editing!
