Hi everyone,

We are reading all of your feedback, and deeply understand your frustrations and concerns. Please let us first reiterate how important you are to us and Waze. We are so grateful for everything that you do, and sincerely apologize for this issue.

We truthfully did not have advanced notice of this required maintenance work. It came as a surprise to us too, and we absolutely agree that not being able to give you a proper heads up (as we have previously) is not acceptable. This started out as an unexpected and unscheduled minor disruption to service, which then uncovered issues that were not anticipated and outside of our control that have resulted in the need for more down-time. We are planning to add a notice in the WME Tile Build popup so that all editors are kept informed of the situation.

Since we last posted, we have learned that our earlier belief that it will take one month for this maintenance to complete may have been an overestimation. We are optimistic that in reality it will be shorter, but still don’t want to set any false expectations. Either way, we will take advantage of this time to make improvements so that the service is enhanced once back.

Unfortunately, since the process has already started, we can’t pause it to allow for the edits you’ve queued to advance to the Tile Build. We know this will negatively impact several ongoing and planned projects mentioned here in the comments like the Houston campaign and the Pakistan mapraid. Your in-progress projects and contributions will be protected to the best of our ability, and we promise that we will help prioritize rescheduling them once the maintenance is concluded.

Waze stands apart from other navigation services precisely because of the Community and the amazing and irreplaceable local knowledge you all provide to the millions of Waze users around the world. Please know we would never take this for granted.

Once again, we deeply apologize for the disruption this has caused. We are working on this as the top priority for the whole company, and hope to resume normal service as quickly as possible.

Thank you,
Ruben, on behalf of the Waze Communities Team

Hi All,

The development team worked over the weekend on the tile builder service, assigning it the highest priority.

In the upcoming days, we will work on manually building tiles in ROW and NA, subject to positive results from the IL build. Releases are expected to be in the following order: IL, ROW and then NA. We will make sure to keep you posted and update you when the map is released in each environment.

Important Notes:
- Currently we’re unfortunately unable to update you with an exact timeline of tile updates planned. Please edit cautiously as cut-off times are uncertain as well and not on the usual schedule. We will attempt to communicate a better timeline for you in the near future.

- Since this is a manual build with manual verifications we could use your help, please keep an eye open and report to us immediately if you see broken tiles (or inconsistencies between the routing and the client tiles) around the areas you’ve just edited. For example roads that appear in the client but are not being routed through.

What will be  released today in IL?
We are happy to update that we just built tiles in IL using the last snapshot from Sunday, December 19, 2021 3:16:59 PM in a one-off build.
The new tiles are now released only in RBS - Routing Beta Server.

What does it mean:
- RBS users in the app will see the updated map and receive routes based on the new tiles
- The Livemap in Israel will reflect the updated tiles but routes will be calculated based on the previous one (until the full release this evening).
- The map in WME snapshot mode will reflect the updated tiles
- Last edit time is already reflected in the tile build popup

The team is currently testing the updated map thoroughly and if everything goes as planned, we’ll release the updated map to all users in Israel at 9:00 PM IL time.

After this, the team will continue work on re-establishing a stable and continuous tile building process.

We really appreciate your patience with this

Thank you,
Ruben on behalf of the Map Squad

Definitely, we opened a request for the team as soon as it was raised, unfortunately we don't have an ETA yet.

Hi All,

We would like to update that we successfully released new tiles for:

- IL on 30/12 using the last snapshot from 30/12/2021, 01:00 AM (IL time)
- NA on 28/12 using the last snapshot from 27/12/2021 , 02:21 PM (IL time)

Unfortunately while working on the ROW tiles we encountered some issues and were unable to release them. We are currently working on resolving them and planning to release tiles at the beginning of January.

On another note we resumed the automatic tile build for IL, we’ll keep monitoring it and make sure it runs smoothly.
If everything goes as planned we’ll proceed with NA and ROW after that.

Thank you,
Ruben on behalf of the Waze Map Squad

Hi All,

We would like to update that we successfully released tiles for ROW this morning, using the last snapshot 29/12/2021, 12:46 (UTC Time).

We also resumed automatic builds for NA and are planning to resume ROW today.

Important: Waze status page is not getting updated for tile updates and is not reflecting the latest map releases. Please refer to the tile build popup in WME for up to date "last edit time" and "map release" information.

We'll keep monitoring and make sure everything runs smoothly in the upcoming builds.

Thank you,
Ruben on behalf of the Waze Map Squad

Currently no ETA, all the information can be found in the Tile Build Popup with no need to exit WME.
You can also subscribe to the RSS feed of the popup.

Yes, as announced in the previous post.

Hi Ruben,

Is it possible that new POI (which were created during tile-update delay) are visible on the map but update of search base doesn't work yet and users don't see them in autocomplete search.

For example in this video we can see POI School "Школа 5" which was created 3-Jan but in the search we can see only google result

Yes the autocomplete is updated separately, and currently there are some delays.

Is there any link to see a status of dedicated updates belong to autocomplete?

We fixed a small issue on Sunday and now everything should be back to normal.
Every tile build will trigger a new search index update.

Thank you,
Ruben
