Far Lanes on JB are now available in WME in IL!

Post by Vespucci41
Hi Everyone,

We’re excited to announce that we have opened Far Lanes on Junction Box (Far Lanes phase 1) in IL!

The feature in a nutshell:

The original implementation of Lanes Guidance used only heuristics to create Lanes guidance for complex junctions, such as H and # junctions. This solution had many limitations. Far Lanes phase 1 comes to give back control to editors to map these junctions independently.

Important notes:
  • Who can edit? WME editors with the relevant permissions (L4 and above) are able to edit Far Lanes with Junction Boxes.
  • Who can view? All Editors in WME can view Far Lanes on junction boxes. If you do not have the relevant permissions, Far Lanes will be grayed out.
  • Editing Permissions: By default Far Lanes will be enabled to L4+. Coordinators will be able to request changes in the default rank per country. In order to edit Far Lanes you need to also have permission to edit lanes in general.
  • Far Lanes are available in the client in IL
Mapping Guidelines:
Knowledge sharing is critical for any new feature launching. We prepared a How-to guide for Far Lanes on Junction Box for you, containing use cases and anticipated questions. As we continue this roll out, we’ll keep this guide updated as needed.

 Link to guide

Happy mapping!
Ruben

Would it be possible to use the features of phase two without JB to correct some misunderstandings in the voice guidance on complex connected junctions, where the VI says "turn left, then turn right" when the next possible right turn is allowed, but is not the correct turn for the route? This may or may not include lanes.

We know that Waze doesn't mean "take the next turn" but "the next turn will be in this direction" with that VI. This sometimes creates issues, including drivers reporting that Waze instructs them to go against the traffic direction.

Wil the existing H and # heuristics be continued or will they all need replacing?

What is phase 2? And when do you plan to make this available on other servers?

It will offer any other feature currently supported by JBs, minus turn restrictions and it will not require JBs.

We are waiting for a couple of fixes found in Israel to make it to NA/ROW before doing the full launch. We'll keep you posted, we can't wait for it to be rolled out as well!

Thanks Gil! Wow the path thing sounds awesome. It would be great to have nesting with this. Any progress on the fixes?

A few notes about heuristics:

All previous H/# lanes heuristics are still working and will continue working on junctions without Far Lanes.
Far Lanes phase1 will allow editors to override bad heuristics and more importantly: apply specific lane guidance where the heuristics don't work (inner-segments too long, angles don't match, etc...)

Once far lanes are used - the heuristics for this specific path will no longer be used (IE: if you define a far lane: make sure to tell "the whole story" on this entry segment because the heuristics will not be used)

The heuristic will stay in place, but you will now have a tool to fix the problematic and non supported ones.
