Communities Hackathon!!! First step: Pick a Theme

Post by Anat-Staff
Hi,

You've heard it from Waze CEO Neha Parikh earlier this year,
we're having a Communities Hackathon!

This super exciting event will take place in June.
We will share more information about participation In a few weeks, but in the meantime…

Our very first step is to pick a theme for the Hackathon:
Which theme do you think this Hackathon should be about? Please vote here.
Please submit your vote by April 13.

Why is the Hackathon around a certain theme?
This will allow the Waze team to make sure your ideas are related to a topic we can dedicate resources to.

Later down the line we'll ask you to create a group and sign it up to submit your idea!

Thanks and let's have a wonderful Hackathon  :D

Hi,

Our awesome Community members mentioned that we should add a few more details:

What's a hackathon?
Google says it's "an event in which a large number of people meet to engage in collaborative computer programming".
In our case, groups of Community members and Waze Staff members will meet (online) to engage in collaborative feature development :-)

Just as a teaser, over the next few weeks, we will ask YOU to -
  1. Pitch ideas related to the winning theme. Don't wrack your brain for ideas just yet, we'll be sharing the criterias in a few weeks!
  2. Create groups of Community members to represent each idea, and apply to participate
  3. If your idea gets chosen - we'll ask you to present your idea in an Office Hours session
And then... on June 21-22, 2022 - meet staff (online!) for the actual hackathon, for 4 hours each day, to discuss your idea!

Exciting, right??
We'll share more ideas in the coming weeks :-)

Why run a hackathon?
Pair Waze staff with our super users (aka YOU!) to deepen our partnership and bring your ideas to life, to innovate on new or existing features based on a common theme, have fun connecting w/Wazers, and spark awesome new ideas

What's the outcome?
Winning team’s idea will be implemented!
